  • On Francis Pasche’s (1993) text “From the ambivalent superego to the impersonal superego

    Nathalie Zilkha•ARTICLE•The International Journal of…•2025

This paper revisits Francis Pasche's 1993 seminal essay From the Ambivalent Superego to the Impersonal Superego. Particular emphasis is given to Pasche's view on the specific verticality in the relation between the ego and superego, and on its evolution. Pasche conceptualises the transformation of this relation from primary admiration and idealization towards an impersonal superego, which he describes as apophatic - defined by what it is not. In …

  • Film Review

Open Access•Adela Abella, Nathalie Zilkha•ARTICLE•The International Journal of…•2004•Cited by: 1

The authors approach Lars Von Trier's fi lm Dogville in the light of contemporary psychoanalytic concepts on perversion. The perverse functioning appears at three levels in the fi lm. First of all in the content of the story: a seemingly masochistic victim stirs up the sadism of the people around her before the scenario turns full circle. As for the formal aspects, the producer subtly hides some data with the result that our perception of reality…

  • The Narcissistic Scenarios of Parenthood

Open Access•Juan Manzano, Francisco Palacio Espasa et al.•ARTICLE•The International Journal of…•1999•Cited by: 1

The authors begin by pointing out that Freud always considered parent-child relations in terms of the child's psychic development and took little account of the parents' experience of the relationship and its psychic effects on them. They recall Freud's distinction between the anaclitic and narcissistic modes of relationship and show how these are unconsciously embodied and enacted in varying proportions in the cases observed in their own clinica…
