Teachings of Demons in Later Times (1 Tim 4.1–5)
In this short study, the syntactic structure of 1 Tim 4.1–3a is re-examined to address long-standing interpretative challenges regarding its apocalyptic warning against demonic teachings. A traditional reading of the passage, as reflected in many translations and commentaries, asserts that the opponents are accused of both forbidding marriage and mandating abstinence from certain foods. This interpretation often relies on invoking the phenomenon …
Petruspredikan på svenska
The article critically responds to John Christian Eurell’s 2022 Swedish translation of the ten fragments of the early second-century Preaching of Peter (Kerygma Petri). Several shortcomings are identified. First of all, it is pointed out that the presentation of the fragments in the original Greek does not consistently conform to the critical edition allegedly used, neglects text-critical issues, and is marred by frequent typographical errors.

The Mission of Jesus
From the inception of critical Jesus research, the questions of Jesus' understanding of his authority and his aims have been central to this field of inquiry. Up to this day, scholars are making efforts toward resolving those questions. This volume is a collection of contributions that were originally presented at the second Nordic Symposium on the historical Jesus in Lund 2012. Researchers from Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden continue and br…
The Future of Criteria in Historical Jesus Research
Recent discussions of method in historical Jesus research have called into question the use of criteria for evaluating the authenticity of Gospel material. The present article lays out the reasons why a number of scholars call for an abandonment of the so-called criteria approach and then criticizes the allegation that this approach is genetically and logically dependent on form criticism. By analysis of how the question of authenticity is handle…
Jesus and the Rites of Repentance
The question as to whether Jesus preached repentance has been discussed in historical Jesus research over the past twenty years, apparently without any scholarly consensus being at hand. This article seeks to eliminate some unnecessary confusion from the debate by investigating early Jewish conceptions of repentance and suggesting that a distinction should be maintained between moral and ritual repentance. It argues that Jesus, while most probabl…
