  • Relationship Between Basic Psychological Needs and Exercise Motivation in Japanese Adults: An Application of Self‐Determination Theory

    Open Access•Hiroshi Matsumoto, Koji Takenaka•ARTICLE•Japanese Psychological Research•2022

Grounded in self‐determination theory (SDT), this study aimed to examine the relationship between satisfying basic psychological needs when exercising and motivation for exercise. Participants ( n male = 324; n female = 379) were Japanese adults who completed a survey using a cross‐sectional, non‐experimental design. Bivariate correlations supported positive associations between satisfying each psychological need via exercise, and revealed that a…

  • Peak Learning Experiences and Language Learning: A Study of American Learners of Japanese

    Hiroshi Matsumoto•ARTICLE•Language Culture and Curriculum•2007•Cited by: 4

This study aimed at exploring motivational factors among American college and university students studying Japanese (as a second/foreign) language by examining their Peak Learning Experiences (Anderson et al., 2001; Bloom, 1982). In all, 128 students studying intermediate Japanese at five different schools returned their answers to this study’s survey questionnaire. They were asked to write about (1) the most helpful/encouraging experience that h…

  • A Worldwide Analysis of AG Molecular Diversity Inferred from Serology

    Alicia Sanchez‐maza, A Sanchez-Mazas et al.•ARTICLE•Human Biology•2001•Cited by: 1•References: 3

Ten population samples from different geographic origins were tested serologically for the AG polymorphism of human beta-lipoproteins. Their haplotype frequencies were used with previously published data to perform a wide analysis of AG genetic differentiations throughout the world. Coancestry coefficients were computed from weighted F(ST)s among populations by using a matrix of molecular distances among AG haplotypes, which is here determined on…

  • The Traditional Regional Divisions and Tribes in North Yemen

Open Access•Hiroshi Matsumoto•ARTICLE•Bulletin of the Society for Near…•1998

The subject of my research is the relationship between tribal structures and regional divisions in North Yemen. The research is organized into three parts: (a) the current situation of tribes and rural administrative divisions; (b) the history of traditional regional divisions in medieval times; and (c) the evolution of traditional regional divisions to the rural administrative divisions of North Yemen in the modern era. This article draws on (b)…
