Open Access•Kai Ding, Jingzhen Yang et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

Despite the global impact of COVID-19, studies comparing the effects of COVID-19 on population mental health across countries are sparse. This study aimed to compare anxiety and depression symptoms during the COVID-19 lockdown among adults from 11 countries and to examine their associations with country-level COVID-19 factors and personal COVID-19 exposure. A cross-sectional survey was conducted among adults (≥18 years) in 11 countries (Brazil, B…

  • Medical expenditures associated with nonfatal occupational injuries among immigrant and U.S.-born workers

Open Access•Huiyun Xiang, Junxin Shi et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2012

Immigrant workers had a statistically significant lower incidence rate of nonfatal occupational injuries than U.S.-born workers. There was no significant difference in seeking medical treatment and in the mean expenditures per injured worker between the two groups. The proportion of total expenditures paid by workers' compensation was smaller (marginally significant) for immigrant workers than for U.S.-born workers

  • Nonoccupational and Occupational Injuries to US Workers With Disabilities

We fitted multivariable logistic regression models to calculate odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals of injuries by disability status, controlling for…

  • Civil Society and Global Governance

Michael Muetzelfeldt, Gary Smith et al.•ARTICLE•Citizenship Studies•2002•Cited by: 7•References: 56

In this article we reassert the role of governance as well as of civil society in the analysis of citizenship. We argue that to analyse global civil society and global citizenship it is necessary to focus on global governance. Just as states may facilitate or obstruct the emergence and development of national civil society, so too global governance institutions may facilitate or obstruct an emerging global civil society. Our key contention is tha…
