Do M editerraneans really do it better? Explaining the lower gender wage gap in southern E uropean countries
This article sets out to help provide a more detailed explanation for the narrower gender wage gap in M editerranean countries. Two explanatory hypotheses are put forward and compared empirically using the European Union Statistics on Income and Living Conditions (EU‐SILC). The purpose of this article is to illustrate differences in the gender wage gap in 13 EU member states, using figures taken from the Household Panel for 2000. The methodology is based primarily on the kernel density functions of men's and women's wages. The Automotive Industry in the ‘Old Periphery’ of the European Union: Regional Input Linkages of Volkswagen Navarra Sa
The intended main output of this paper is a measurement of the dependence of the regional economy of Navarre (Northern Spain) on the Volkswagen plant producing the Polo model. Based on a field survey (qualitative interviews with 33 automotive suppliers) an exercise is developed to estimate the impact of the closure of the VW plant on regional employment.
