  • PAR is a way of life

    Patricia Krueger-Henney, Jessica Ruglis•ARTICLE•Educational Philosophy and Theory•2020•Cited by: 2•References: 4

In this article, we present participatory action research (PAR) as a radical act of humanity: a direct response to real dehumanization of vulnerable communities. We argue, as an enactment of critical social theories, that PAR privileges relationships and shared knowledge creations as strategies for transforming everyday worlds. We draw on interviews conducted with nine participants of a 2013 Krueger-Henney, P. (2013). Co-researching school spaces…

  • Toward a Healthy High Schools Movement

Bianca De Stavola, Jessica Ruglis et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•2010•Cited by: 4•References: 43

Although research shows that education and health are closely intertwined, health professionals have difficulty using this evidence to improve health and educational outcomes and reduce inequities. We call for a social movement for healthy high schools in the United States that would improve school achievement and graduation rates; create school environments that promote lifelong individual, family, and community health and prevent chronic illnes…
