How is social resilience possible? a qualitative comparative analysis based on the “Arab Spring”
Social resilience is crucial for a social system to effectively respond to various internal and external challenges. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, countries worldwide have faced increasingly complex challenges, highlighting the significance of social resilience research. The “Arab Spring” during 2010–2012 triggered continuous unrest, threatening social stability in MENA countries. This upheaval has become a focal point of political science researc…
Can TV Politics Improve the Trust Pattern of 'Intimate Central Government and Alienate Local Government
The hierarchical and descending trust pattern among Chinese citizens toward governments at all levels, characterized by a stronger trust in the central government and a weaker trust in local governments, often leads to the 'Tacitus trap' in local government governance. As a new platform for public participation and local government supervision, can TV political programs improve the trust pattern of 'intimate central government and alienate local …
The Influence of Online Political Expression on Disagreement and Incivility
This study theorized that active political expression on social networking sites (SNS) facilitates political disagreement since it diversifies one’s communication network, which likely leads to political incivility. Additionally, individuals’ social identity might condition this indirect relationship. Relying on a two-wave panel survey in Hong Kong, this study found that political expression on SNS is significantly associated with political disag…
An exploration of the antecedents and consequences of judges’ time poverty at work
Evaluating the Potential of Information and Communication Technologies to Increase Aquaculture Sustainability
Focusing on environmental and ecological concerns, the European Union (EU27) ranks as the world's fifth‐largest aquaculture producer. Acknowledging the necessity of enhancing productivity and competitiveness, the EU recognizes the importance of investing in the sustainability and growth of the aquaculture industry. Thus, the primary objective of this study is to investigate the impact of information and communication technology (ICT) elements on …
Money Versus Time
The development of social media platforms has ushered in a new era in which online media interactions, such as Facebook and Twitter, have largely supplanted traditional means of interpersonal interaction. This has resulted in problems such as cyberbullying and social exclusion. Previous research has indicated that people who feel socially excluded react more positively to altruistic behaviors, which could effectively restore connection and happin…
Toward marine sustainability
The fishing fleet of European Union (EU) nations gets billions in tax benefits each year, and the combustion of that fuel results in millions of tons of carbon emissions each year—and quantity of carbon dioxide equal to what Malta's entire fishing fleet emits each year. By considering the function of fishing output, fossil fuel usage, economic development, and population density (PD) from 1990 to 2022, this study examines the dynamic impact of th…
Application of K’o-ssu in Fashion Design for the Ageing Population
Clothing design for Chinese senior citizens is characterized by a lack of innovation and outdated styles with monotonous surface design. Despite the growing population and increasing demands, senior citizens have limited options for their garment. Therefore, we experimented with an innovative method to revive a traditional Chinese handicraft, K’o-ssu, for fashion design for Chinese senior citizens. On the one hand, this meets the aesthetic needs …

This study examined the relationships between social media use, strong-tie discussion, and political participation in three Chinese societies, mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Our findings showed that strong-tie discussion is positively related to collective action participation across the three societies. More importantly, strong-tie discussion mediates the effect of political use of social media on political participation in mainland Chin…

Changing a 'culture' of corruption
Empirical evidence demonstrates that bribery, extortion and graft are often the outgrowths of a deeper 'culture of corruption' which has proved disconcertingly resilient in the face of public sector reforms. This article investigates whether changing collective beliefs about how 'most people in society' will behave can reform prevailing cultural practices. Employing an economic experiment involving northern and southern Italian university student…
