Effects of different iodine supplementation strategies on thyroid function in iodine-deficient pregnant women: A meta-analysis
Background This study aimed to clarify the association between iodine supplementation and thyroid function indices, as well as secondary outcomes including thyroglobulin (Tg) and thyroid volume (TV), in iodine-deficient pregnant women, accounting for different supplementation regimens and trimesters. Methods Chinese and English literature on iodine supplementation in iodine-deficient pregnant women and its associations with thyroid function indic…
Winter Road Condition Monitoring with Traffic Surveillance Cameras and Deep Learning
Winter road snow significantly alters surface friction conditions and traffic capacity, serving as a critical factor contributing to traffic accidents, congestion, and temporary traffic control measures. Compared with sparsely deployed road sensors and labor-intensive field inspections, traffic surveillance cameras offer advantages such as dense spatial coverage, low deployment cost, and continuous observation capability, providing a feasible sol…
Utilization of rehabilitation services among older adults with physical disabilities: The interactive influence of regional development and socioeconomic position
Background: The utilization of rehabilitation services by older adults with disabilities is an important health task in the context of population aging and disability expansion. This study aims to explore whether there are structural differences in the relationship between the socioeconomic position (SEP) of older adults with physical disabilities (PD) and their utilization of rehabilitation services across urban and rural areas. Methods: A total…
Critical care, critical gaps: Assessment of burnout and behavioral profiles of ICU healthcare workers in China—a multicenter cross-sectional study
Background Burnout in intensive care unit (ICU) healthcare workers (HCWs) is a persistent threat to patient safety and workforce stability. While most evidence is derived from crisis settings, the behavioral determinants of burnout in routine, post-pandemic ICUs remain under-explored. This study applies a Knowledge-Attitude-Practice (KAP) framework to assess burnout-related KAP and identify its demographic, occupational, and institutional predict…
Beyond fragmented authoritarianism? Studies of bureaucratic behavior in contemporary China and its contributions to general bureaucratic theory
Empirical research of Chinese politics has been deeply influenced by Western social science theories. Studies of bureaucracy and bureaucratic behavior are no exceptions, over which Weberian bureaucracy and fragmented authoritarianism theories have made substantial impacts. Yet in the past two decades, based on in-depth empirical studies, alternative conceptual innovations and theoretical developments such as ‘project-system’ and ‘campaign style g…
That’s me at my best”: Perspectives of older adults on involvement in technology research
Creating assistive technology for older adults requires a deep understanding of their needs, values and preferences. Human-centred approaches can be used to engage older adults in technology research to help ensure that end solutions are ethically aligned, relevant and responsive to their priorities. However, the value of cocreation is not universally acknowledged. Older adults continue to receive negative stereotyping and are limited from engagi…
Soil pollution in the European Union – An outlook
Soil pollution in the European Union (EU) is poorly quantified, because of several years of reduced attention and limited funding on soil research and monitoring. Moreover, issues such as different monitoring methodologies within Member States (MS), and quantification methods focused on pseudototal rather than the available fraction of pollutants, has been limiting our understanding of risk under soil pollution. Despite that, thanks to efforts fr…
Allocation of CO2 emission target in China under the “1 + N” policy: Considering natural carbon sinks and wind-solar-hydropower endowments
Evolution of government and market under China’s reform era: Through the perspective of state capacity
There are two main stream theories explaining China’s rapid economic development in the reform era: new institutionalism and developmental state theory. Realizing the weaknesses of two main stream theories and based on China’s unique experience as both a transitional economy and developing economy that experienced rapid industrialization and marketization, scholars also developed other theories with some revisions of the above two mainstream theo…
The art of plucking the goose: Chinese urban residents' tax consciousness
Public finance lies at the heart of politics. It shapes citizens' political attitudes and behaviors. While the expenditure side has been studied very extensively, the income side has been neglected, especially in authoritarian regimes. Taking China as an ideal case, we use a nation‐wide random sample of urban residents to study how citizens under strong authoritarian states perceive their tax burdens. We find that Chinese citizens have low tax co…
Reexamine regional models of China's economic growth: Toward an integrated analytical framework
Based on a selective review of studies of regional development models in China, this article develops an integrated analytical framework, which includes two dimensions. First, a static dimension that integrates national institutions with regional specific structural and informal institutional factors, specifically historical legacies, how they interact with each other to shape local actors' incentives, constraints and strategies of survival, ther…
The Russian Federation Refuses to Appear before the Itlos and the Annex VII Arbitral Tribunal
1. The “Arctic Sunrise” is a ship operated by Greenpeace International, with The Netherlands as its flag State. On 18 September 2013, 30 Greenpeace International activists, who were on board the Arctic Sunrise, protested against the Russian Federation's (hereafter “Russia”) oil platform, the “Prirazlomnaya”. Subsequently, in Russia's EEZ, the vessel and its crewmembers were detained by the Russian authorities. In subsequent exchanges of notes ver…
Experimental study on inhibition of s 180 tumor cells by Agrimonia pilosa extract
We evaluated the in vitro and in vivo inhibition of S180 tumor cell growth of the water extract of Agrimonia pilosa. Inhibitory effect of Agrimonia pilosa on in vitro-cultured S180 cell proliferation was measured by MTT assay; mice model of transplanted tumor was established, after 8 days of continuous administration, the tumors were removed, weighed, and compared with the control group, and the in vivo anti-tumor effect of Agrimonia pilosa on mo…
Effect of Tao-Hong-Si-Wu-Tang, a Traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine Formula, on Physical Fatigue in Mice
Tao-Hong-Si-Wu-Tang (THSWT) is a famous traditional Chinese herbal medicine formula, which has traditionally been used in China for about one thousand years. The present study investigated the effect of THSWT on physical fatigue. 32 male mice were randomly divided into 4 groups with 8 in each group. All were administered orally and daily for 28 days. Group I received isotonic saline solution as control; Group II, III and IV obtained 5, 10 and 20m…
