  • Personal comfort systems for adults with intellectual disabilities

Open Access•Katherine Exss, Maureen Trebilcock et al.•ARTICLE•Buildings and Cities•2026

This study examines how personal comfort systems (PCS) support thermal adaptation among adults with intellectual disabilities living in energy-poor households in Chile. Participants (n = 8) in two identical social-housing units completed two in-home field campaigns: winter (June–August 2023; 10 weeks) and summer (December 2023–March 2024; 14 weeks). The study combined an adapted daily point-in-time thermal comfort questionnaire, continuous indoor…

  • Climate Change 2022 - Mitigation of Climate Change

    Open Access•Stefano Schiavon, IPCC IPCC et al.•BOOK•Climate Change 2022 - Mitigation…•2023

This Working Group III contribution to the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report provides a comprehensive and transparent assessment of the literature on climate change mitigation. The report assesses progress in climate change mitigation options for reducing emissions and enhancing sinks. With greenhouse gas emissions at the highest levels in human history, this report provides options to achieve net zero, as pledged by many countries. The report highlig…

  • Common sources of occupant dissatisfaction with workspace environments in 600 office buildings

Open Access•Thomas Parkinson, Stefano Schiavon et al.•ARTICLE•Buildings and Cities•2023

Previously unpublished data from over 600 office buildings in the Center for the Built Environment (CBE) Occupant Survey database are used to perform a systematic analysis of dissatisfaction in contemporary workspaces. A total of 81% of respondents expressed dissatisfaction with at least one aspect of their workspace, and 67% with more than one. Acoustics were the most common source of dissatisfaction, particularly related to people talking, spee…

  • Assessment and mitigation of personal exposure to particulate air pollution in cities

Open Access•Phuong Thi Minh Tran, Max G Adam et al.•ARTICLE•Sustainable Cities and Society•2021

  • Lessons learned from 20 years of CBE’s occupant surveys

    Open Access•Lindsay T Graham, Thomas Parkinson et al.•ARTICLE•Buildings and Cities•2021•References: 1

Buildings influence diverse factors (e.g. health, wellbeing, productivity, and social connection). Occupants’ direct experiences with their indoor environments allow them to determine whether those spaces support or hinder the activities performed. However, most post-occupancy evaluations (POEs) focus solely on measuring people’s levels of comfort and environmental satisfaction. With increasing attention and interest in occupant health and wellne…
