The literature on Indigenous participation in EAs has been critiqued for being overly process oriented and for neglecting to examine how power influences EA decision making. Little research has, however, been carried out on the role that religion plays in immigrant welfare. Using a comparative approach the study on which this paper is based sought to explore this question. Its findings demonstrate that religion plays an important role in many ways but that its importance varies both between and within t…

    Open Access•David R Cox•ARTICLE•Australian Journal of Social Issues•1973

Selection is a vital part of any immigration programme. However, it must be carried out in the context of the prospective migrant's motivation and attitudes to authority, and the reality situation of a particular country. The procedures adopted by the Australian Department of Immigration in Greece and Yugoslavia are discussed from the perspective of counselling, the provision of information, selection and preventive services. Difficulties faced b…

  • An Analysis of Transformations

    Open Access•George E P Box, David R Cox•ARTICLE•Journal of the Royal Statistical…•1964

In the analysis of data it is often assumed that observations y 1, y 2, ..., yn are independently normally distributed with constant variance and with expectations specified by a model linear in a set of parameters θ. In this paper we make the less restrictive assumption that such a normal, homoscedastic, linear model is appropriate after some suitable transformation has been applied to the y's. Inferences about the transformation and about the p…
