Herder-related violence, labor allocation, and the gendered response of agricultural households
Violent conflict between nomadic herders and settled agricultural communities in Nigeria occurs as both groups clash over the use of land and natural resources, in part, due to a changing climate. We generate theory and evidence to study the labor responses of individuals within agricultural households to herder-related violence and consider a “shadow of violence” mechanism, whereby previous exposure to a violent event alters labor responses to a…
A Literature Review Examining the Effectiveness of At-Home Physical Activity on Controlling the Blood Pressure of African American Men in Baltimore, Maryland
African American (AA) men in Baltimore, Maryland, suffer disproportionately from hypertension (HTN) and are found to be more inactive than other groups. “All Those Little Spools and Lights”
This article provides a cultural history of film and television at Louisiana's Angola Prison in the 1950s to show that moving images coexisted with the brutalities for which the prison is known, including stark labor conditions, corporal violence, and punitive racism. Indeed, this understanding is so widely assumed that its very ubiquity has been described as rendering citation unnecessary. However, a survey of linguistic evidence indicates that this common assumption is far from the most plausible understanding of the passage,…

For émigrés seeking to adapt to life outside t…

International Institutions and Janus Faces
This study addresses two interrelated questions. First, how can we expand the utility of the two-level model by developing the international level of the game, and second, how can this new conceptualization of the two-level game improve our understanding of how chief negotiators create a negotiation strategy? To address these questions, it will be explained how a state formulates its international strategy by taking into account that states parti…
