This study raises the issue of the characteristic and use of rock shelters and caves at the Batu Cave, Cililin Cave 1, and Jauharlin Cave 1 located in the karst area of Kotabaru, South Kalimantan. Archaeological data was obtained by survey and excavation at the three sites. Early Metal Age Settlement at the Site of Palemba, Kalumpang, Karama Valley, West Sulawesi
This article is about the Early Metal Age in Sulawesi, a little known period for this region. The research is based on the 2013 excavations undertaken at Palemba, a site rediscovered after being neglected for 80 years. A well-preserved occupation layer dominated by distinctive pottery sherds with ribbed patterns produced by carved paddle impressions is dated to the Early Metal Age (ca. cal. a.d. 300). Liang Panningnge, one of cave sites in Maros Region, South Sulawesi, provides information about the exploitation of animals especially pig (Suidae) by the cave inhabitants. Neolithic foundations in the Karama valley, West Sulawesi, Indonesia
Excavations at three open-air sites in the Karama valley of West Sulawesi have revealed similar suites of ceramics and overlapping chronologies. The pottery from the basal layers at Minanga Sipakko and Kamassi resembles that of the Philippines and Taiwan, and suggests the settlement of migrants from those areas, consistent with the theory of Austronesian expansion. The absence of the flaked lithic technology typical of earlier Sulawesi population…
