Open Access•Sheree Moore, Rachael Fox et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal for Equity…•2023

Background Australian data has indicated that the frequency and severity of family and domestic violence (FDV) tends to increase with remoteness. Rural communities rely on Emergency Departments (ED) within public hospitals for general health and safety needs. Public health departments within Australia are strongly influenced by Government policies which can define ‘health problems’ and limit institutional responses to patients presenting with FDV…

    Open Access•C C Sonn, Rachael Fox et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Community…•2022•Cited by: 4•References: 69

As we planned this special issue, the world was in the midst of a pandemic, one which brought into sharp focus many of the pre‐existing economic, social, and climate crises, as well as, trends of widening economic and social inequalities. The pandemic also brought to the forefront an epistemic crisis that continues to decentre certain knowledges while maintaining the hegemony of Eurocentric ways of knowing and being. Thus, we set out to explore t…

  • Engaging critical methodologies in qualitative research methods with undergraduate psychology students

Open Access•Rachael Fox, Brona Nic Giolla Easpaig•ARTICLE•Journal of Community Psychology•2021•References: 11

This article describes the experiences of teaching undergraduate psychology students in an Australian context. The degree course the students take has no community or critical units, but it is one of very few in Australia that has a compulsory standalone unit in qualitative methods. While qualitative methods are by no means necessarily inherently critical or community focused, it has presented an opportunity to the teachers of the unit (the autho…

  • Making Space for Community Critical Methodology: Stories from the Australian Context

Open Access•Rachael Fox, Brona Nic Giolla Easpaig et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Community…•2019•Cited by: 3•References: 31

Our collective account considers the ways community critical methodologies can inform academic endeavors. Methodology is understood to be the theorizing of methods that produce and legitimate knowledge claims. For us, community critical approaches incorporate poststructural and other forms of critical theory in the questioning of taken for granted assumptions. This forms a valuable foundation for community praxis as it focuses not just on social …

    Open Access•D Sime, Rachael Fox•ARTICLE•Childhood•2015•Cited by: 5•References: 26

Despite a recent upsurge in migration research, the impact of family migration on children’s relationships has received relatively little attention. The existing literature is only beginning to give a voice to migrant children. This article aims to address this gap, as it draws on findings from a qualitative study conducted with 57 Eastern European children, newly arrived in Scotland. • Resisting participation: Critiquing participatory research methodologies with young people

    Rachael Fox•ARTICLE•Journal of Youth Studies•2013•Cited by: 21•References: 6

Participatory methodologies are increasingly employed in research with young people. These practices stem from a desire to reduce problematic distributions of power in research and to construct knowledge with young people rather than for them. This paper examines research conducted with a small group of young people experiencing exclusion from school, which aimed to understand those experiences and their implications for education. The research t…
