Relationship between family environmental factors and infant sleep
This study examines the relationship between infant sleep and parenting style, family climate, parenting stress, and soothing methods among Finnish families. Mothers completed questionnaires before birth and when their infants were 3 and 8 months old. Initially, 1667 mothers participated, with follow‐up responses from 1421 mothers and 1427 infants at 3 months and 1298 mothers and 1302 infants at 8 months. A cross‐sectional data analysis was condu…
Foggy fun
This study represents the first exploration of active gaming based on mid-air gestural interaction with a fogscreen, focusing on its feasibility for children with attention deficits. The aim was to evaluate the practicality and effectiveness of gestural interaction in two interaction scenarios involving translation and selection of objects projected on the fog, through the assessment of interaction performance and subjective opinions. The propose…
Longitudinal Associations between Parental Bonding and Child Preschool Social-Emotional Problems
Research is currently limited on the association of maternal and especially paternal postpartum bonding with child social-emotional development. This study is part of the nationally representative CHILD-SLEEP -sample (n = 710 families), where postpartum bonding was assessed with Postpartum Bonding Questionnaire (PBQ) at the child age of eight months, and child social-emotional problems were assessed with the Five to Fifteen (FTF) and the Strength…
Social competence group intervention (Soco) for children with autism spectrum disorder
This study aimed to describe concept of social competence as a theoretical background for social skills group intervention for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). A model of social competence comprised of three components: social skills, social performance, and social adjustment. We also examined the feasibility and preliminary efficacy of the manualized Social Competence group intervention for children with autism spectrum disorder (SO…
Prenatal and Postnatal Predictive Factors for Children’s Inattentive and Hyperactive Symptoms at 5 Years of Age
We examined several parent-reported prenatal and postnatal factors as potential risk factors for attention-deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) symptomatology in 5-year-old children. Our study is based on the CHILD-SLEEP birth cohort. Several parental questionnaires were collected prenatally (32nd pregnancy week) and postnatally (i.e. child aged 3, 8, and 24 months and at 5 years). At 5 years of age, ADHD symptoms were assessed using questio…
Night awakening in infancy
Fragmented sleep is common in infancy. Although night awakening is known to decrease with age, in some infants night awakening is more persistent and continues into older ages. However, the influence of fragmented sleep on development is poorly known. In the present study, the longitudinal relationship between fragmented sleep and psychomotor development (Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development [Bayley-III]; Bayley, 2009) was investigated…
