How teachers develop dynamic capabilities during crises
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Melbourne, Australia’s second largest city, experienced 262 days of lockdowns, school closures and compulsory remote teaching. This study examines the first 154 days of school closures, and the capabilities teachers developed in response to these unprecedented challenges. Three rounds of interviews were conducted with the same ten teachers during school terms two, three and four. Specifically, immediately after the f…

School-Home Crisis Communication During the First Wave of Covid-19
In early 2020, UNESCO acknowledged that the scale of educational disruption associated with COVID-19 was unparalleled. Schools were forced to react swiftly. From bad to worse
Most western countries face either existing or looming teacher shortages. No doubt there are many and varied reasons for this and no simple remedy. Contemporaneously, film and television can have profound, often unintended attitudinal and behavioural consequences. As reflectors and creators of societal values, axiomatically, they provide insight into the construction and management of both personal and professional identities. The portrayal of va…
Navigating ‘Home Schooling’ during Covid-19
COVID-19 has wreaked havoc worldwide. Schools have escaped neither the pandemic nor its consequences. Indeed, by April 2020, schools had been suspended in 189 countries, affecting 89% of learners globally. While the Australian government has implemented variously effective health and economic policies in response to COVID-19, their inability to agree with states on education policy during the pandemic caused considerable confusion and anxiety. Ac…
