Open Access•Raymond Boon Tar Lim, Dana Chow et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Experiential Education•2024

Background: Experiential learning is increasingly important in public health education. Purpose: Based on 33 studies, this is the first scoping review that provides clarity on the types of experiential learning activities (ELAs) used in public health education and the evaluation results from the perspectives of three stakeholders involved: students, faculty, and communities/external agencies. • Association between the extension of smoke-free legislation and incident acute myocardial infarctions in Singapore from 2010 to 2019

Open Access•Jamie Sin Ying Ho, Andrew Fu Wah Ho et al.•ARTICLE•BMJ Global Health•2023

BACKGROUND: We examined the association between smoke-free laws implemented in the outdoors and the common areas of residential apartment blocks and reported acute myocardial infarctions (AMI) in Singapore. METHODS: We used an interrupted time-series design and seasonal autoregressive integrated moving average models to examine the effect of the smoke-free law extensions in 2013 (common areas of residential blocks, covered pedestrian linkways, ov…

  • Clustering of Environmental Parameters and the Risk of Acute Ischaemic Stroke

    Open Access•Geraldine P Y Koo, Huili Zheng et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2023

Acute ischaemic stroke (AIS) risk on days with similar environmental profiles remains unknown. We investigated the association between clusters of days with similar environmental parameters and AIS incidence in Singapore. We grouped calendar days from 2010 to 2015 with similar rainfall, temperature, wind speed, and Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) using k-means clustering. Three distinct clusters were formed 'Cluster 1' containing high wind speed,…

Through this review, we aimed to (1) describe the range of self-reflection formats used in public health undergraduate education, (2) compare the level of reflectivity and outcomes of self-reflection according to the co…

  • Clustering of Environmental Parameters and the Risk of Acute Myocardial Infarction

    Open Access•Geraldine P Y Koo, Huili Zheng et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

The association between days with similar environmental parameters and cardiovascular events is unknown. We investigate the association between clusters of environmental parameters and acute myocardial infarction (AMI) risk in Singapore. Using k-means clustering and conditional Poisson models, we grouped calendar days from 2010 to 2015 based on rainfall, temperature, wind speed and the Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) and compared the incidence ra…

  • Enchanted Encounter

    Huili Zheng•ARTICLE•NAN Nü•2014

Wang Tao (1828–97) was a late Qing translator, political commentator, and fiction writer who spent time in England, France and Scotland, and served as an important literary link between China and the West. In examining Wang’s tales of Sino-Western encounters and drawing from the long literary tradition of depicting foreign “Others,” this paper shows that Wang’s image of the West in his literary tales is ambivalent. Further, it argues that Wang’s …
