  • Imposed Ignorance and Humble Ignorance—Two Worldviews

    Paul G Heltne•CHAPTER•The Virtues of Ignorance:…•2008

  • Basic Concepts of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology

Paul G Heltne, Paul Heltne•ARTICLE•The Hastings Center Report•1998

us regarding the wise allocation of resources in our regions and worldwide. Unfortunately, ecology and evolutionary biology are not widely understood; we are not good at reading the landscape.2 If these studies were part of the common operating knowledge of our society, this article, indeed the whole supplement and the project it describes, could take a much different starting point. Nevertheless, many of the main principles of ecology are simple…

  • Maternal and paternal periods in the development of infant Callimico goeldii

    Open Access•Paul G Heltne, Dennis C Turner et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1973•Cited by: 4•References: 6

The paternal‐maternal‐infant interactions of contact and nursing are reported from extensive longitudinal observations on two successive Callimico births in one family. For the first two weeks, the maternal period, the infant clings exclusively to the female. In the third week the infant shifts abruptly to the male. Subsequently, during the paternal period most of the maternal‐infant contact involves nursing. The infant Callimico remains almost t…

  • Cytogenetic studies in the Hottentot population: Count distribution, report of a fragment, and preliminary description of morphology

    Open Access•Paul G Heltne, Ronald Singer•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1971•Cited by: 7•References: 82

As part of a general investigation of the biology and morphological variation of the Hottentot population, this study deals with the karyotype analysis of a sample from that population. The modal number overall is 46; however, a high percentage of aneuploid cells, both hypomodal and hypermodal, is found. The rate of increase of aneuploidy with age is considered in detail. The rates for hypomodality with age for Hottentot females are positive and …
