  • Silvery dawn

Ewelina Miśta-Jakubowska, Marzena Matla et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2026

This study investigates whether locally available silver contributed to early Piast coinage through high-resolution lead isotope and elemental analyses of 11th–early 12th-century coins from the Polish lands. The earliest royal issues, including key emissions of Bolesław I the Brave, form an isotopically coherent group consistent with the Pb–Ag ores of the Upper Silesia-Kraków Upland (US). Although these deposits were already known and exploited a…

  • Where did the ore come from? Pb isotope provenance of a Pre-Columbian speiss/matte fragment from the Metallurgist’s Burial at Castillo de Huarmey (Peru)

  • Tin–Lead Sewn Tokens From 13th‐Century Gdańsk

Open Access•ławomir Wadyl, Jakub Karczewski et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2026•References: 13

This study presents the results of an interdisciplinary investigation of 98 tin–lead sewn tokens from 13th‐century Gdańsk, the largest assemblage of its kind in Central Europe. Combining archaeological context, typology, SEM‐EDS and lead isotope analysis, the research explores provenance, production and function. Seven iconographic types were identified. Alloy compositions vary by type, indicating variation by type, reflecting batch‐related trend…
