The impact of self-affirmation interventions on well-being
Previous research on self-affirmation has mainly focused on outcomes related to academic achievement and health-related behavior changes, suggesting that self-affirmation could facilitate adaptive responses to psychological threats. This has attracted increasing attention in the field of well-being research. However, the findings on the relationship between self-affirmation and well-being have not been synthesized. This meta-analysis aimed to fil…
Exposure to Nature Sounds through a Mobile Application in Daily Life
Previous studies have revealed the restorative effects of exposure to natural environments on psychological well-being and cognitive performance. Recent studies have reported the effects of exposure to nature sounds (e.g., the sounds of birds, rainfall, and waves) through a mobile application on reducing students' mental fatigue and improving their cognitive performance. However, it remains unknown whether exposure to nature sounds through a mobi…
Risk Communication in the Alert Phase of the Covid-19 Pandemic
This study examined the global media citation network of COVID-19-related news at two stages of the pandemic alert phase, i.e., the national level alert stage and the global level alert stage. The findings reveal that the small-world pattern and scale-free property of media citation networks contributed to the rapid spread of COVID-19-related news around the world. Within the networks, a small number of media outlets from a few countries formed t…
Examining preservice teachers’ professional learning experience during the international teaching practicums
This paper examines a cohort of Chinese preservice teachers’ (PSTs’) (n = 13) international teaching practicums (ITPs) experiences in Canada from the perspectives of complexity theory and boundary-crossing. Through semi-structured interviews and reflective journals, we positioned PSTs’ ITPs within multiple layers, including biographies, the Chinese and Canadian teacher education programmes, the Canadian university setting, K-12 schools, and the d…
Typology of OECD’s Global Educational Governance and Its Policy Effect
In this essay review, we first historicize how the OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) rose to be a global education policy actor and authority from a historical, comparative, and international perspective. Subsequently, we sketch out the global educational governing mechanisms developed by the OECD, which include but are not limited to governing by numbers, comparison, example, commensuration, affection, and “what works…
