  • Psychosocial correlates of awareness of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) among persons who inject drugs in Northeast Georgia

Mohammad Rifat Haider, Samantha Clinton et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS Care•2026

Despite Georgia having one of the highest rates of new HIV diagnoses in the United States, uptake of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) remains critically low. We assessed the psychosocial correlates associated with PrEP awareness among persons who inject drugs (PWID) living in Northeast Georgia. Data were collected from 173 adult (≥18 years) HIV-negative PWID. PrEP awareness was elicited by the question, "Have you ever heard of PrEP?" (Yes/No).…

A retrospective cohort analysis was conducted using data from Nepal’s national electronic HIV register, including 322 women who became pregnant between 2020 and 2023. We analyzed sociodemo…

  • Homosexuality stigma and HIV risk behaviors among HIV-negative men who have sex with men in Vietnam

Truc Thanh Thai, Ly Thuy Nguyen et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS Care•2025

Stigma toward homosexuality plays an important role in the increased risk of acquiring or transmitting HIV among men who have sex with men (MSM). This study describes associations between three dimensions of homosexuality-related stigma (enacted, perceived and internalized) and HIV risk behaviors among HIV-negative MSM in Hanoi, Vietnam. A total of 1675 HIV-negative MSM were recruited from the baseline of a cohort study from 2017 to 2019 through …

  • Psychological distress among healthcare workers in Kabul following the 2021 transition

Open Access•Shoaib Naeemi, Sayed Murtaza Sadat Hofiani et al.•ARTICLE•Conflict and Health•2025

One in four HCWs reported psychological distress, with stress-induced reactivity being the most common symptom. Female gender and pessimism about the future were key associated factors of elevated distress. The findings highlight the critical need for long-term mental health support programs specifically designed for HCWs, broader support within the health system, and continued research into how HCWs cope and build resilience

  • Correlates of duration between initial drug use and first drug injection among people who inject drugs in Iran, 2020

Open Access•Zahra Abdolahinia, Zahra Jaafari et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

The transition to injection drug use among PWID in Iran often occurs within a decade of initial drug use and is influenced by demographic, social, and psychological factors. Prevention strategies should focus on early intervention for at-risk youth, address mental health needs, and leverage peer influence. Policymakers should prioritize evidence-based, multi-faceted approaches that target both individual and structural factors to delay or prevent…

  • Correlates of viral suppression among sexual minority men and transgender women living with HIV in Mpumalanga, South Africa

Open Access•Akua O Gyamerah, Alexander Marr et al.•ARTICLE•PLOS Global Public Health•2024

Sexual minority men (SMM) and transgender women in South Africa engage in HIV care at lower rates than other persons living with HIV and may experience population-specific barriers to HIV treatment and viral suppression (VS). As part of a pilot trial of an SMM-tailored peer navigation (PN) intervention in Ehlanzeni district, South Africa, we assessed factors associated with ART use and VS among SMM at trial enrolment. A total of 103 HIV-positive …

The Uganda Ministry of Health included the HPV vaccine in the free routine immunization schedule since 2015. Five years after this policy, we assessed the uptake of the HPV vaccine and associated socio-demographic factors among young women living in fishing communities in Central Uganda in 2020. We analyzed secondary data from 94 you…

Globally, complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) is increasingly used by patients who need support alongside receiving medical treatment for chronic conditions. This study aims to examin…

  • Authorship equity in global health research

Open Access•Rebekah Kaufman, Elizabeth Fair et al.•ARTICLE•BMJ Global Health•2023

Authorship inequity exists in global health research and can be representative of unequal partnerships. Previous studies showed that low-income and middle-income country (LMIC) authors are under-represented in publications from global collaborative research between LMIC and high-income countries (HIC). However, there are little data on trends for how specific HIC institutions are performing concerning equitable authorship. We used Web of Science …
