  • Radiocarbon Dating of Modern Peat Profiles

    Open Access•Tomasz Goslar, W O van der Knaap et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2005•Cited by: 9•References: 17

We present studies of 9 modern (up to 400-yr-old) peat sections from Slovenia, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, and Finland. Precise radiocarbon dating of modern samples is possible due to the large bomb peak of atmospheric 14 C concentration in 1963 and the following rapid decline in the 14 C level. All the analyzed 14 C profiles appeared concordant with the shape of the bomb peak of atmospheric 14 C concentration, integrated over some time interval…

  • Multiproxy dendroclimatology

    Open Access•Danny McCarroll, Risto Jalkanen et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2003•Cited by: 7•References: 5

Ten potential proxy measures of past climate were recovered from Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) at three sites on a latitudinal transect close to the pine limit in northern Finland (earlywood, latewood and annual ring width; earlywood, latewood and maximum density; stable carbon isotope ratio; height increment; needle production; pollen deposition). Cambium dynamics were also monitored. The aim was to determine how climate influences each potentia…

  • The use of annual arboreal pollen deposition values for delimiting tree-lines in the landscape and exploring models of pollen dispersal

    Open Access•Sheila Hicks•ARTICLE•Review of Palaeobotany and…•2001

  • Numerical analysis of modern and fossil pollen spectra as a tool for elucidating the nature of fine-scale human activities in boreal areas

    Open Access•Sheila Hicks, H J B Birks•ARTICLE•Vegetation History and…•1996•Cited by: 21•References: 1
