A Multivariate Extension of the Correlation Ratio
A measure of the magnitude of the effect in a one-factor multivariate analysis of variance design is considered. Cooley and Lohnes have proposed the use of the quantity (1 — | W|/| T|) as a multivariate extension of the correlation ratio, where | W| is the determinant of the within-groups cross-products matrix and | T| is the determinant of the total cross-products matrix. The measure is based on the use of | W| as the estimate of a generalized m…
Correlates of Performance in Community Colleges
This paper investigates the relationship of teaching styles, the faculty's perception of college goals, satisfaction, influence over policy issues, and organizational characteristics, and the teaching effectiveness of community college divisions. While almost none of the predictors was related across the board to teaching performance, fairly strong relations emerged when these variables were examined separately for the divisions representing diff…
Goals and Educational Trends in Community Colleges
The paper presents a comprehensive analysis of goals in 26 community colleges. Full-time faculty, administrators, and trustees showed clear perceptions of actual goals. All three groups express almost identical goal preferences towards a specialized institution with primary emphasis on vocational and paraprofessional education. The open-door policy, academic training, and public-interest programs were goals that should be deemphasized. The agreem…
