The Strong Interest Inventory and its predecessors have been the subject of decades of research. Many studies have used Holland's Six General Occupational Themes, and some have explored the 23 Basic Interest Scales. The literature addresses IQ in vocational counseling and includes studies relating Holland's themes and the 23 interest scales. The subjects included a nationwide sample of 894 13- to 65-yr.-olds tested during the standardization of t…
Factor Structure of the Kaufman Adolescent and Adult Intelligence Test (Kait) for Whites, African Americans, and Hispanics
Factor-analyzed data for three race/ethnic groups on the Kaufman Adolescent and Adult Intelligence Test (KAIT) for people ages 11 to 93 are reported. Factor structures for Whites (N= 1,535), African Americans (N = 226), and Hispanics (N = 140) yielded Fluid and Crystallized dimensions that were congruent across race/ethnic groups and provided construct validity evidence for each subsample. The "g" factors for the three samples yielded congruence …
White-Black and White-Hispanic Differences on Fluid and Crystallized Abilities by Age across the 11- to 94-Year Range
Standardization data for the Kaufman Adolescent and Adult Intelligence Test (KAIT) were used to examine white-black and white-Hispanic differences on the Horn-Cattell crystallized and fluid constructs at several age groups across the broad 11- to 94-year span. Samples included 1,547 white, 241 black, and 140 Hispanic persons. Multivariate analyses with educational attainment covaried yielded only one significant finding: the white-black differenc…
The Canonical Relationship Between the Wisc-R Verbal and Performance Scales
The canonical relationship of the WISC-R Verbal and Performance scales was investigated and found to be similar to that of the WAIS-R, but less strong. The two scales share 46% of their variance. Independent interpretation of the Verbal and Performance scales was supported
Simplifying Ranking Tasks in Survey Research
In many situations in survey research ranking objects or choices is desired. Ranking often presents many difficulties for respondents so data are incomplete. This paper demonstrates that use of paired comparisons may overcome many such difficulties. The paper also describes the simple computations involved in its use
