  • Competing discourses of power in teachers’ stories of challenging relationships with students

    Open Access•Rachel Chamberlain, Peter C Scales et al.•ARTICLE•Power and Education•2020•Cited by: 2•References: 10

Student–teacher relationships have been largely explored in literature from the perspective of successful relationships, i.e., what constitutes a successful relationship and how teachers build them. To illustrate their hypothesis, Li and Julian compared the role of developmental relationships in effective interventions to the role that fluoride plays in toothpaste: it is the active ingredient that directly and most powerfully contributes to the intended outcome. Although inactive ingredients such…

    Katie Johnston‐Goodstar, K Johnston-Goodstar et al.•ARTICLE•Social Work•2014•Cited by: 2•References: 15

Youth media is emerging as an interdisciplinary field of practice and subject of study. Over the last two decades, there have been many efforts within communities to engage in media, especially within the fields of youth work and education. Despite the increase in practice, we found surprisingly little attention to the potential for youth media within the social work literature. Drawing on a qualitative content analysis of program descriptions fr…
