  • Precursors of employee turnover

    Open Access•Thomas W Dougherty, Allen C Bluedorn et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Organizational Behavior•1985•Cited by: 5•References: 6

Two models of the nature of linkages among precursors of voluntary turnover were examined using four distinct samples. A model which includes both job satisfaction and organizational commitment as exogenous variables leading to one's intention to resign was shown to provide results which support its usage in future research. Analyses of longitudinal data for precursors across two points in time, before turnover, however, provided only weak suppor…

  • Toward a Clarification of the Division of Labor Construct

    Open Access•Thomas L Keon, Nancy M Carter•ARTICLE•Human Relations•1985•Cited by: 1•References: 72

Empirical and theoretical articles written between 1958-1981 whose primary focus was the division of labor were reviewed. Definitional and operational problems are discussed as they account for discrepancies that exist in the literature. Standardized definitions of the various components of the division of labor are proposed for guiding future research clarity through standardization

  • Image Congruence and the Treatment of Difference Scores in Organizational Choice Research

    Open Access•Thomas L Keon, Janina C Latack et al.•ARTICLE•Human Relations•1982•Cited by: 4•References: 26

This study examined how the perceived congruence between self-and organizational images affects one's choice of a graduate school of business. Applicants with a positive self-image (N = 64) select schools most like their self-image, whereas applicants with a negative self-image (N = 18) select schools least like their self-image. The retention of directionality in difference scores is shown to be a useful data analysis technique when testing cong…

  • Job Satisfaction and Life Satisfaction

    Open Access•Thomas L Keon, Bill McDonald•ARTICLE•Human Relations•1982•Cited by: 13•References: 18

A survey of job satisfaction, life satisfaction, and work related attitudes was administered to 129 employees of an auto parts manufacturer. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between job and life satisfaction. Using three-stage least squares, the results suggest that the two variables are jointly determined

  • Predicting employee satisfaction from congruency among individual need, job design, and system structure

    Open Access•Robert P Vecchio, Thomas L Keon•ARTICLE•Journal of Organizational Behavior•1981•References: 2

Theoretical models designed to predict employee affective reactions from congruency among individual growth need strength, job attributes, and organizational structure have suffered from imprecision in predictions (Porter et al. , 1975; Nemiroff and Ford, 1976) or inconsistency in the application of integration rules (Pierce et al. , 1979). The present study competitively tested predictions generated by a congruency‐weighted model with prediction…
