  • Effectiveness of Father-Focused Interventions to Prevent or Reduce Intimate Partner Violence During Pregnancy and Early Parenthood

    Open Access•Karen Wynter, Lauren M Francis et al.•ARTICLE•Trauma Violence & Abuse•2025

During pregnancy and the early parenting period, women are especially vulnerable to intimate partner violence (IPV), with devastating impacts on women, children, and families. The aim of this systematic review was to determine the effectiveness of father-focused interventions to prevent or reduce IPV during pregnancy and early parenthood. Six databases were searched, using a combination of the concepts “fathers,” “pregnancy/early parenthood,” “IP…

  • Development of a Brief Coparenting Measure

Open Access•Chris May, Codie Atherton et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2023

The study found support for the reliability and validity of the CCS. Coparenting competence, assessed by the CCS, was found to be distinct from factors previously used to represent coparenting quality in multivariate scales. The strength of associations between the CCS and SDQ suggests this new measure may have an important role in coparenting research

  • A data science approach to movies and film director analysis

    Open Access•Chris May, Lior Shamir•ARTICLE•First Monday•2019

The creation of movies involves a careful process of planning, recording, and editing of the visual content. Here we propose a quantitative computer-based analysis of movies to identify similarities that can indicate on influential links between films, genres, or film directors. The method works by first extracting a comprehensive set of numerical image content descriptors from a large number of frames from each movie. Then, the most informative …

  • Parent, partner, co-parent or partnership? The need for clarity as family systems thinking takes hold in the quest to motivate behavioural change

Open Access•Chris May, Li Kheng Chai et al.•ARTICLE•Children•2017

Research is increasingly pointing to the importance of extending the focus of childhood obesity intervention to include fathers, fathering figures, and other members of a child's primary parenting network. Advances in communication technology are now making it possible to achieve this aim, within current resources, using modalities such text messaging, web-based resources and apps that extend intervention to parents not in attendance at face to f…

  • Supporting men through their transition to fatherhood with messages delivered to their smartphones

    Open Access•Richard Fletcher, Francis Kay-Lambkin et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2017

The present study has demonstrated that it is both feasible and acceptable to support new fathers with SMS4dads, a relationship-focused messaging system designed to be delivered to smartphones across fathers' transition to parenthood

  • Jurisprudence v Musicology

    Chris May•ARTICLE•Music and Letters•2016

Copyright has witnessed various difficult encounters between musical and legal knowledge. This essay focuses on recent high-profile Australian litigation, in which Men at Work's hit Down Under was held to infringe copyright in Kookaburra Sits in the Old Gum Tree . I use the Down Under case to illustrate copyright's troubling ontological engagements with music, a topic on which musicology offers considerable insight. However, I also claim that cop…

  • The indeterminacy of the rule of law

    Chris May•ARTICLE•Global Discourse•2015

In this review of Jason Whitehead's new book Judging judges , I explore the four broad types of judicial grounds judges tend to adopt (in American courts, at least) when adjudicating cases, and the impact this might have on our understanding of the rule of law: formalism, good faith, cynicism, and rogue views. After briefly introducing the issue of adjudication and the rule of law, I conclude that Whitehead's interview grounded typology may be of…

  • Modeling Relations among Coparenting Quality, Autism-Specific Parenting Self-Efficacy, and Parenting Stress in Mothers and Fathers of Children with ASD

Chris May, Richard Fletcher et al.•ARTICLE•Parenting•2015•Cited by: 2•References: 13

SYNOPSISObjective. Coparenting quality has been linked to both parenting stress and parenting self-efficacy in families of typically developing children, but little is known about relations between these factors in families where there is a child with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). This study employed structural equation modeling to explore relations among coparenting quality, autism-specific parenting self-efficacy, and parenting stress in m…
