Composition and influencing factors of professionals’ capacity in public health emergency rescues
Objective: To explore the composition and influencing factors of professionals' capacity in public health emergency rescues. Methods: A descriptive qualitative design was used in this study. Medical workers, managers, and members of an emergency rescue team in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, were recruited for participation through a purposive sampling method. The data were collected using semi-structured interviews and analyzed using a conventional content …
Multidimensional Forced-Choice CAT With Dominance Items
Several forced-choice (FC) computerized adaptive tests (CATs) have emerged in the field of organizational psychology, all of them employing ideal-point items. However, despite most items developed historically follow dominance response models, research on FC CAT using dominance items is limited. Existing research is heavily dominated by simulations and lacking in empirical deployment. This empirical study trialed a FC CAT with dominance items des…
Urban residents’ self-rescue in response to public health emergencies in China
This study investigated the perceptions and attitudes of Chinese urban residents towards emergency self-rescue. The results support enhanced ability of urban residents to respond to public health emergencies, thereby diminishing the negative outcomes. The findings suggest the need for strategies to address the factors affecting emergency self-rescue
Amygdalar and Hippocampal Morphometry Abnormalities in First-Episode Schizophrenia Using Deformation-Based Shape Analysis
In this study, we investigated and quantified the amygdalar and hippocampal morphometry abnormalities exerted by first-episode schizophrenia using a total of 92 patients and 106 healthy control participants. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) based automated segmentation was conducted to obtain the amygdalar and hippocampal segmentations. Disease-versus-control volume differences of the bilateral amygdalas and hippocampi were quantified. In additio…
Abnormal Degree Centrality Associated With Cognitive Dysfunctions in Early Bipolar Disorder
Delayed diagnosis of bipolar disorder (BD) is common. However, diagnostic validity may be enhanced using reliable neurobiological markers for BD. Degree centrality (DC) is one such potential marker that enables researchers to visualize neuronal network abnormalities in the early stages of some neuropsychiatric disorders. In the present study, we measured resting-state DC abnormalities and cognitive deficits in order to identify early neurobiologi…
Influence of Context on Item Parameters in Forced-Choice Personality Assessments
A fundamental assumption in computerized adaptive testing is that item parameters are invariant with respect to context—items surrounding the administered item. This assumption, however, may not hold in forced-choice (FC) assessments, where explicit comparisons are made between items included in the same block. We empirically examined the influence of context on item parameters by comparing parameter estimates from two FC instruments. The first i…

A Qualitative Review and Integrative Model of Gratitude and Physical Health
Gratitude is seen as a central component of Christian theology, and the extant literature suggests that there is an important relation between gratitude and physical health and well-being. In the current review, we summarize 42 studies published since 2009 that inform this relationship. Based on the theoretical framework by Hill, Allemand, and Roberts (2013), we organize our review in three sections that focus on how gratitude influences physical…
Forgiveness of in-group offenders in Christian congregations
Religious communities, like other communities, are ripe for interpersonal offenses. We examined the degree to which group identification predicted forgiveness of an in-group offender. We examined the effects of a victim’s perception of his or her religious group identification as a state-specific personal variable on forgiveness by integrating Social Identity Theory into a model of Relational Spirituality (Davis, Hook, & Worthington, 2008) to hel…
Simulation Analysis of the Blocking Effect of Transaction Costs in China's Housing Market
To examine the blocking effect of transaction costs on household mobility, we construct a housing consumption model including transaction costs and adopt an analog simulation methodology, analyzing how changes in household income and home prices influence household consumption, savings decisions and the transaction costs blocking effect. We find that changes in housing demand are the fundamental cause of the blocking effect of transaction costs. …
Low-Temperature and Temperature Stepped-Combustion of Terrace Sediments from Nanfu, Taiwan
We discuss a radiocarbon study of sediment samples collected from Nanfu terrace in western Taiwan. From these, we extracted humic acids (HA) and humin from the very fine and coarse grain-size fractions using a standard acid-alkali-acid pretreatment. The humin extracts were combusted at 400 and 1100 °C by stepped-combustion, to yield a low-temperature (LT) carbon component and a high-temperature (HT) carbon component. We compare the ages of the LT…
The East Asian Monsoon During MIS 2 Expressed in a Speleothem δ 18 O Record From Jintanwan Cave, Hunan, China
Stalagmite J1 from Jintanwan Cave, Hunan, China, provides a precisely dated, decadally resolved δ 18 O proxy record of paleoclimatic changes associated with the East Asian monsoon from ∽29.5 to 14.7 ka and from ∽12.9 to 11.0 ka. At the time of the last glacial maximum (LGM), the East Asian summer monsoon weakened and then strengthened in response to changes in Northern Hemisphere insolation. As the ice sheets retreated the East Asian summer monso…
Decoupling of stalagmite-derived Asian summer monsoon records from North Atlantic temperature change during marine oxygen isotope stage 5d
The Asian monsoon is an important component of the global climate system. Seasonal variations in wind, rainfall, and temperature associated with the Asian monsoon systems affect a vast expanse of tropical and subtropical Asia. Speleothem-derived summer monsoon variation in East Asia was previously found to be closely associated with millennial-scale change in temperature in the North Atlantic region between 75 and 10 ka. New evidence recovered fr…
