Nature-Based Offsets in Russia
The article discusses the key problems and conditions for the successful development of the industry of nature-based offset projects (NBOP) in Russia. Taking into account the state and prospects for development of external markets for carbon units from NBOP (voluntary carbon markets, national carbon markets, implementation of projects under Articles 6.2 and 6.4 of the Paris Agreement), the conditions for successful entry of carbon units from Russ…
Cross-Border Carbon Regulation and Forests in Russia
Introduction of the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism over the period from 2023 to 2026 together with corporate commitments to achieve carbon neutrality and carry out commercial decarbonization have markedly increased interest in assessing the potential of carbon sequestration by Russian forests as a possible way to achieve decarbonization and facilitate Russian exports. The prevailing opinion in business circles is that a significant net pos…
Russia’s environmental legislation 1855–1913
We study the development and change in priorities in Russia’s environmental policy in the period of 1855–1913. We systematize all of the important legislative acts on nature management (land use, forests, rivers, fishery, the animal kingdom, etc.), geographical regions, ruling figures, and authorities that changed over time. We examine the expediency of taking into account the derived patterns in contemporary nature conservation practice. Importa…
Development of environmental legislation in pre-revolutionary Russia (1649–1855)
The development of environmentally significant legislation in Russia is studied for the period from the Council Code (promulgated in 1649) of Tsar Aleksei Mikhailovich to 1855. We analyzed 1231 legislative acts related to environmental issues. Many features of this legislation have not lost their topicality and must be taken into account in modern legislative activity. Environmental restrictions were imposed not only on the state-owned lands but …
The Effects of Natural and Anthropogenic Changes on Heat and Water Budgets in the Central Caucasus, USSR
Comparison of maps that show the location of equilibrium lines of glaciers during this century and the latter half of the nineteenth century indicate the magnitude of the recession of glaciers and the associated changes of climatic parameters. A mathematical model was used to assess the corresponding changes in the elements of the heat budget by vertical belts. In addition, the transformation of the water budget as a result of changes of the clim…
II Glaciation actuelle et climat du Caucase
Glaciers and climate in the Western and Central Caucasus. After an abstract about the Caucasus climate, the authors show a statistical distribution of the glaciers, the genesis of the avalanches and a typology of the avalanchous regions. They show that the glaciers are climatological indicators, found the feeding-ablation balances and their annual changes during the last 10 years
III Traits communs et particuliers du régime climatique des glaciers et de leurs oscillations
General and specific features of glaciological regimes and their oscillations in the Western Alps and in the Caucasus. The both climate mountains are chiefly different by continental degree. The thermic secular change is marked by a continual cooling down in the high Caucasus, while Caucasian piedmonts, plains and mountains of the Western Europe were becoming warmer up to 1955-60. The Caucasus glaciers fronts are lower than the one A Ipine glacie…
