Portuguese Slave Trade
Between 1441 and 1444, Portuguese navigators exploring the west coast of Africa captured the first contingents of Africans on the Mauritanian coast and subsequently shipped them to Portugal. This chapter offers a general overview of the slave trade in seventeenth-century Angola and its connections to the wider Atlantic Ocean.
