  • Ground penetrating radar surveys of Viejo Period settlements of the Chihuahua Culture, Upper Santa Maria Valley, Chihuahua, Mexico

    Open Access•J M Maillol, Richard D Garvin et al.•ARTICLE•ArchéoSciences•2009•Cited by: 1•References: 2

Archaeological background The first major project pertaining to the Chihuahua Culture was conducted by Charles Di Peso and colleagues during the late 1950’s and early 1960’s (Di Peso, 1974). Their work was primarily concerned with the site of Paquimé (Casas Grandes), now a World Heritage site and the most renowned Mexican archaeological site north of Mesoamerica proper. Di Peso defined the Viejo, Medio and Tardio periods primarily on the basis of…

  • Common‐ and multi‐offset ground‐penetrating radar study of a Roman villa, Tourega, Portugal

    Open Access•Brooke A Berard, J M Maillol•ARTICLE•Archaeological Prospection•2007•Cited by: 4•References: 2

A ground‐penetrating radar (GPR) survey was conducted at the site of the first to fourth century AD Roman villa of Tourega, near Évora, Alentejo region, Portugal. This site has been partially excavated, revealing a bathhouse complex consisting of a tank reservoir, multiple bathing rooms and a major corridor. The excavated portion of Tourega provides direct archaeological feedback as to the size, shape, depth and orientation of structures revealed…

  • Electrical and magnetic response of archaeological features at the early neolithic site of Movila lui Deciov, western Romania

    Open Access•J M Maillol, Dan Ciobotaru et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeological Prospection•2004•Cited by: 3•References: 2

An archaeological geophysics survey was conducted on the early neolithic site of Movila lui Deciov, in the Province of Banat, Romania. Magnetometry and electromagnetic terrain conductivity were used for the main prospection effort, and a test of electrical resistivity imaging was conducted on a selected profile. In addition, magnetic susceptibility measurements were obtained from excavation pit samples. The magnetic survey was successful in deter…
