  • Procedural performance is linked to motor skills and language ability

    Open Access•Yu‐Ting Tseng, Yu-Ting Tseng et al.•ARTICLE•Acta Psychologica•2025•References: 1

Previous studies have demonstrated poor procedural learning of motor sequences in children with developmental coordination disorder (DCD). These studies have largely relied on the serial reaction time paradigm, and results have not always been conclusive. This study examined procedural learning and its association with motor coordination and language ability in children with DCD and typically developing (TD) children, using an ecologically valid …

  • Impaired motor skills and proprioceptive function in Mandarin-speaking children with developmental language disorder

Open Access•Hsinjen Julie Hsu, Hsin-jen Hsu et al.•ARTICLE•Brain and Language•2024

  • The declarative system in children with specific language impairment

    Open Access•Dorothy V M Bishop, Hsinjen Julie Hsu•ARTICLE•BMC Psychology•2015

These results are consistent with the Procedural Deficit Hypothesis of SLI, in finding spared declarative learning on a nonverbal auditory-visual paired associate task. On the verbal version of the task, the SLI group had a deficit in learning relative to age-matched controls, which was evident on the first block in the first session. However, the subsequent rate of learning was consistent across all three groups. Problems in vocabulary learning …

  • Grammatical Difficulties in Children with Specific Language Impairment

    Open Access•Hsinjen Julie Hsu, Dorothy V M Bishop•ARTICLE•Human Development•2010

Theoretical accounts of grammatical limitations in specific language impairment (SLI) have been polarized between those that postulate problems with domain-specific grammatical knowledge, and those that regard grammatical deficits as downstream consequences of perceptual or memory limitations. Here we consider an alternative view that grammatical deficits arise when the learning system is biased towards memorization of exemplars, and is poor at e…
