Students’ experience of making and receiving peer assessment
Making and receiving peer assessment may be a positive experience for some students while other students will not appreciate it. The present study contributes with insights into individual characteristics affecting how students will experience the practice of peer assessment. We further provide an analysis of the inherent tasks of making and receiving peer assessment separately. The study specifically focuses on the impact of self-assessed knowle…
Potentials for reducing climate impact from tourism transport behavior
Emissions of greenhouse gases from tourism transport are rising globally, with air transport accounting for the largest share. Although travel is not likely to decrease drastically, people could travel differently, and still have similar experiences. This study aims to map the emissions from air travel and analyse the theoretical potential for emissions reduction by changing transport mode and destinations, and the readiness potential for emissio…
Prosecutor v. Bemba et al
The case against Jean-Pierre Bemba, Aimé Kilolo Musamba, Jean-Jacques Mangenda Kabongo, Fidèle Babala Wandu, and Narcisse Arido is the first case before the International Criminal Court (ICC) dealing with offenses against administration of justice. The case is exceptional in terms of scope and size in comparison to other international prosecutions dealing with this kind of offense. The charges concern a systematic scheme aimed at producing false …
Ecology, evolution, and management strategies of northern pike populations in the Baltic Sea
Baltic Sea populations of the northern pike (Esox lucius) have declined since the 1990s, and they face additional challenges due to ongoing climate change. Pike in the Baltic Sea spawn either in coastal bays or in freshwater streams and wetlands. Pike recruited in freshwater have been found to make up about 50 % of coastal pike stocks and to show natal homing, thus limiting gene flow among closely located spawning sites. Due to natal homing, sub-…
A Bootstrap Theory of Rationality
In this paper a bootstrap theory of rationality is presented. Such a theory is an attempt to explain how standards of rational inquiry may be rationally revised — without assuming that there are any basic and fixed standards for evaluating such revisions. The general bootstrap idea is briefly presented in the first sections. The main part of the paper consists of a discussion of what normative requirements a bootstrap theory should contain, and a…
Unmik and the Ombudsperson Institution in Kosovo
This article examines the human rights record of the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) during its first years as the governing power in Kosovo. This is done mainly through the work of the Ombudsperson Institution in Kosovo, which was established to ensure the respect of human rights by the local as well as the international authorities in the province. UNMIK was established in 1999 within the UN framework for peacekeeping operations and it…
