    Open Access•ROBIN CAMPBELL, Alan Warner•ARTICLE•Voluntas Revista Internacional de…•2015•Cited by: 4•References: 4

The direct relationship between international volunteer experiences and impacts has rarely been explored and yet is important for understanding why certain impacts occur in the lives of volunteers upon returning home. This information helps organizations to develop effective international volunteer programs. This interpretive case study of the Nova Scotia-Gambia Association’s volunteer program explores the interactions between motivations, experi…

  • Sexist Discrimination May Account for Well-Known Gender Differences in Psychiatric Symptoms

    Open Access•Elizabeth A Klonoff, Hope Landrine et al.•ARTICLE•Psychology of Women Quarterly•2000•Cited by: 47•References: 9

It was hypothesized that women may have more depressive, anxious, and somatic symptoms than men because they experience a deleterious stressor that men do not: sexist treatment. A total of 255 students (180 females, 75 males) at a state university completed an anonymous questionnaire containing measures of these symptoms. Women were found to exhibit significantly greater symptoms than men on all of them. Further, women who experienced frequent se…

  • Ancient and medieval experiments on child language: A comment on Bonvillian, Garber and Dell (1997)

    Open Access•Robert Grieve, Robin N Campbell et al.•ARTICLE•First Language•1999

A recent paper published by Bonvillian, Garber & Dell (1997) examines one ancient and two medieval studies of children's language development, whereby children were allegedly isolated from hearing any spoken language in order to discover what, if any, language the children would come to produce. Bonvillian et al. consider studies attributed to Psamtik I, an Egyptian Pharaoh in the seventh century BC; to James IV of Scotland in the fifteenth centu…

Gloria Cowan, ROBIN CAMPBELL et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Sex Research•1995•Cited by: 20•References: 4

Five possible causes of rape—male dominance, female precipitation, society, male sexuality, and male pathology—were compared among high school students from California. Participants (N = 453) completed a group‐administered questionnaire as part of a rape‐education high school outreach provided by two rape crisis centers. Gender, ethnicity, age, and communication sources about rape, including pornography, were related to attitudes about the causes…

  • Racism and Sexism in Interracial Pornography: A Content Analysis

Open Access•Gloria Cowan, ROBIN CAMPBELL et al.•ARTICLE•Psychology of Women Quarterly•1994•Cited by: 35•References: 1

Racism and sexism were examined in interracial (Black/White) X-rated pornography videocassettes. Five female coders coded 476 characters in the sexually explicit scenes in 54 videos. Characters were coded on aggregate measures of physical and verbal aggression, inequality cues, racial cues, and intimacy cues, as well as other specific indices. Sexism was demonstrated in the unidirectional aggression by men toward women. Racism was demonstrated in…

  • Constraints on Classificatory Skills in Young Children

Open Access•Robin N Campbell, ROBIN CAMPBELL et al.•ARTICLE•British Journal of Psychology•1976

On three occasions over a one‐year period 23 children aged 3–4 were asked to match target objects with other objects which were similar to the target in shape or in colour but not in both. A sequence of matches to each target was asked for. The structure of these sequences is examined for evidence of classificatory abilities. Many subjects appear to be attempting (not always successfully) to follow a strategy of ‘holding fast’ to their original c…
