Understanding public support for social protest
Despite its acclaimed role in democratic theory, social protest is not a common occurrence in most states where widespread political participation is typically limited to voting, and mass participation is otherwise rare. This article examines public opinion regarding the 2011 summer protests in Israel, in which hundreds of thousands took to the streets in wide-scale events that lasted for several weeks. It does so by focusing on two independent s…
Don’t Let Them Fool You
In the last 20 years, adolescents have gradually become very important clients for the banking industry. The current study investigates, using data collected in a survey, whether adolescents offered two options for investing in a saving certificate choose the financially preferable one and whether this choice is related to their time preference, after controlling for gender and bank account ownership. The participants were 270 adolescents from pu…
Emotions, Risk Perceptions, and Precautionary Behavior Under the Threat of Terror Attacks
The current study uses the unique data from a natural experiment conducted in a college located in southern Israel that was exposed to rocket attacks in 2008. The study examines the relationships between the negative emotions, the perceptions of risk to oneself, the precautionary actions, and the intentions of 290 students who were exposed to terror attacks while on campus. In addition, we compared the emotions, the risk perceptions, and the prec…

The research questionnaire included socio-demographic characteristics, and the Health Belief Model principles. The results show that the significant factors…
The Complexity Effects on Choice with Uncertainty – Experimental Evidence
We present experimental evidence suggesting that human subjects dislike complexity in choice with uncertainty. Our results suggest that the probability of choosing a given alternative decreases with the relative complexity of that alternative. Complexity increases the noise in the choice process and the chances that the (otherwise) inferior alternative will be selected. Our results contradict the predictions of (discounted) expected utility theor…

On complexity and lotteries' evaluation – three experimental observations
Discount Rates Inferred from Decisions
Two hundred and four students of economics and finance participated in an intertemporal choice experiment which manipulated three dimensions in a 4 × 4 × 4 factorial design: scenario (postponing a receipt, postponing a payment, expediting a receipt, expediting a payment), time delay (0.5, 1, 2, and 4 years), and size of cashflow ($40, $200, $1000, and $5000). Individual discount rates were inferred from the responses, and then used to test compet…
