  • Unanticipated inflation, unemployment persistence and the New Keynesian Phillips curve

    Open Access•George Alogoskoufis, Stelios Giannoulakis•ARTICLE•Economica•2025•References: 29

This paper puts forward an analytically tractable dynamic stochastic general equilibrium model, with both labour and product market frictions. Frictions in the labour market arise from the power of labour market insiders to periodically preset nominal wages, without full current information. Product market frictions arise from monopolistic competition and staggered pricing. The model results in an insider–outsider New Keynesian Phillips curve (IO…

  • The Clash of Central Bankers with Labour Market Insiders, and the Persistence of Inflation and Unemployment

    Open Access•George Alogoskoufis•ARTICLE•Economica•2018•Cited by: 1•References: 20

This paper analyses the implications of monetary policy for the dynamic behaviour of inflation, in a ‘natural’ rate model characterized by endogenous unemployment persistence. We present evidence for the main industrial economies that suggests that inflation displays persistence which is of the same order of magnitude as the persistence of deviations of unemployment from its ‘natural’ rate. We provide a theoretical explanation of this fact based …

  • Monetary Policy and the Informational Implications of the Phillips Curve

    George S Alogoskoufis, George Alogoskoufis•ARTICLE•Economica•1990

In this paper I examine optimal monetary policy and the informational implications of the Phillips curve in a stochastic macroeconomic model. It is assumed that wages are not only indexed to the price level, but respond to the state of the labor market as well. If information about current disturbances is conveyed only through market prices, it turns out that wages have independent informational content, over and above the informational content o…

  • On Intertemporal Substitution and Aggregate Labor Supply

    George S Alogoskoufis, George Alogoskoufis•ARTICLE•Journal of Political Economy•1987•References: 1

In this paper, the author presents an econometric investigation of t he implications of the intertemporal substitution hypothesis for aggregate employment in the United States. The tests are based on a version of the hypothesis with time-separable preferences. On the basis of the evidence produced, the hypothesis is quite successful in explaining fluctuations in aggregate employment, although almost totally unsuccessful in accounting for fluctuat…
