  • Comparing carrots and sticks to create a more circular food system

Open Access•Junyoung Jeong, Yongyang Cai et al.•ARTICLE•Food Policy•2026

  • Ontologies relevant for improving data interoperability for food loss and waste

Open Access•Matthew Lange, Matthew C Lange et al.•ARTICLE•Cleaner and Responsible Consumption•2025

Food loss and waste (FLW) is a global challenge. Interoperable FLW ontologies will foster more comprehensive data sharing and inform better solutions to reduce and recover excess food and to valorize wasted food and food byproducts. This review reveals that only eight ontologies currently address FLW with most emphasizing valorization. Notably, few are designed explicitly to support FLW reduction, and none facilitate food recovery, which is criti…

  • Frozen food purchasing and home freezing of fresh foods

Open Access•Lei Xu, Ran Li et al.•ARTICLE•British Food Journal•2024

Purpose Freezing extends the shelf life of food. Home freezing of fresh foods and the purchase of frozen foods have been advocated as approaches to reduce food waste in US households. This paper discusses how commonly US households apply these practices, quantifies frozen food waste and relates these practices to food waste. Design/methodology/approach We add questions to the summer 2022 wave of the US Household Food Waste Tracking Survey. The no…

  • Perceived vulnerability to Covid-19 infection from event attendance

Open Access•Ran Li, Bingcheng Yang et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2020

  • Risk Tolerance among National Longitudinal Survey of Youth Participants

    Open Access•Bidisha Mandal, Brian E Roe•ARTICLE•Economica•2014•References: 14

We analyse how age and cognitive skills are related to risk tolerance among respondents to the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth between 1993 and 2006. Older individuals display lower risk tolerance than younger individuals, though as the panel ages from their early thirties to their mid‐forties, differences in risk tolerance between the oldest and youngest individuals narrow, while panel‐average risk tolerance declines. In contrast to other …

  • House and Housemate

Keith Warren, Sean Newsome et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Social Service Research•2004•References: 14

Studies have consistently found higher levels of aggressive and auto-aggressive behavior among intellectually disabled (ID) residents of institutions and group homes than among ID residents in the community. However, the reasons for this discrepancy remain unclear. This exploratory study suggests that group living situations may increase the volatility of aggressive and auto-aggressive behaviors by leading to unstable nonlinear dynamics and provi…

  • Can Eco-Labels Tune a Market? Evidence from Dolphin-Safe Labeling

  • The Impact of Health Claims on Consumer Search and Product Evaluation Outcomes

Open Access•Brian Roe, Brian E Roe et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Public Policy &…•1999

The authors report results of a mall-intercept study regarding the effects of health claims on consumer information search and processing behavior. Results suggest that the presence of health and nutrient-content claims on food packages induces respondents to truncate information search to the front panel of packages. Respondents who either truncate information search or view claims provide more positive summary judgments of products and give gre…

  • Is there competition between breast-feeding and maternal employment

    Open Access•Brian Roe, Brian E Roe et al.•ARTICLE•Demography•1999•Cited by: 22•References: 27

Theory suggests that the decision to return to employment after childbirth and the decision to breast-feed may be jointly determined. We estimate models of simultaneous equations for two different aspects of the relationship between maternal employment and breast-feeding using 1993-1994 data from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Infant Feeding Practices Study. We first explore the simultaneous duration of breast-feeding and work leave foll…
