  • Multi-targeted action of rooibos may protect against ischaemic stroke-induced neurological deficit and endothelial dysfunction

    Open Access•L Pretorius, K S Ross et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Ethnopharmacology•2025

Taken together, activity data and physiological assessments suggest that unfermented rooibos may indeed have benefit in the context of stroke, via action at multiple targets. Thus, current data further our understanding of the mechanisms of actions of rooibos and warrant future research to confirm sufficient bioavailability of rooibos in target tissues, in mammalian systems

  • Sceletium tortuosum-derived mesembrine significantly contributes to the anxiolytic effect of Zembrin®, but its anti-depressant effect may require synergy of multiple plant constituents

Open Access•Johané Gericke, Brian H Harvey et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Ethnopharmacology•2024

  • Green rooibos (Aspalathus linearis) promotes gut health

    Open Access•L Pretorius, Carine Smith•ARTICLE•Journal of Ethnopharmacology•2024

Data indicates the potential of a 2 mg/ml aqueous extract of green rooibos to improve gastrointestinal integrity and functionality in vivo, suggesting beneficial effects of rooibos may already occur at the level of the gut. This provides some evidence to support indigenous knowledge

  • Rooibos (Aspalathus linearis) alters secretome trace amine profile of probiotic and commensal microbes in vitro

Open Access•L Pretorius, Anton D van Staden et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Ethnopharmacology•2022

  • Interest Groups in the Republic of South Africa

    Open Access•L Pretorius, W B Vosloo•ARTICLE•The Annals of the American…•1974

The South African interest group structure is in large measure determined by the racial and ethnic divisions within the population. The low degree of overlap ping group membership can be attributed to three, partly coinciding factors: (1) voluntary establishment of associa tions to promote the interests of specific racial or ethnic groups; (2) government measures introducing racial segrega tion into associational life; and (3) the establishment o…
