  • The Future of Parenting Programs: II Implementation

    Open Access•Jennifer E Lansford, Theresa Betancourt et al.•ARTICLE•Parenting•2022•Cited by: 3•References: 4

This article examines the role that implementation science can play in evidence-based parenting programs. Although parenting programs can support parents in their caregiving roles, adapting and taking an evidence-based approach from one place to another without attending to implementation factors may contribute to poor impact in a new setting. Implementation science enables researchers to move beyond monitoring and evaluation of outcomes of a par…

    Open Access•Margaret Hargreaves, Margaret K Hargreaves et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Evaluation•2013•Cited by: 1•References: 4

In recent years, increased focus on the effectiveness and accountability of prevention and intervention programs has led to greater government funding for the implementation and spread of evidence-based health and human service delivery models. In particular, attention has been paid to programs that require significant infrastructure investment and systems change to support large-scale replication. For conceptual and methodological reasons, such …

  • "The Meaning of "Good Fatherhood: Low-Income Fathers' Social Constructions of Their Roles

Jean Ann Summers, Kimberly Boller et al.•ARTICLE•Parenting•2006•Cited by: 3•References: 3

Objective. To gain a better understanding of how low-income fathers of young children think about their role as fathers, we conducted a qualitative inquiry into the beliefs of fathers of 24-month-old children about what "good fatherhood" means to them. Design. The 575 open-ended interviews, collected in 14 Early Head Start Fathers of Toddlers Qualitative Interview Substudy sites around the United States were analyzed using NUD*IST qualitative sof…

  • Relation Between Father Connectedness and Child Outcomes

Cheri Vogel, Robert H Bradley et al.•ARTICLE•Parenting•2006•Cited by: 7•References: 3

Objective. We examine the relation between low-income fathers' presence in their children's lives and their children's early developmental outcomes using data from Early Head Start. Design. We grouped 1,930 children into 5 "classes" using maternal reports of fathers' presence and connectedness with the child. We developed the 5 mutually exclusive classes based on biological relatedness, residence in the home or frequency of contact, and stability…

In this introductory article to the Special Issue, we provide an overview of the research and policy context for the Early Head Start Father Studies. We describe the methods used to conduct the father studies, which began in 1997 and were designed to complement the Early Head Start Research and Evaluation Project, a random assignment evaluation of 3,001 families - half who received Early Head Start services and half who did not. The Early Head St…

John M Love, Ellen Eliason Kisker et al.•ARTICLE•Developmental Psychology•2005•Cited by: 146

Early Head Start, a federal program begun in 1995 for low-income pregnant women and families with infants and toddlers, was evaluated through a randomized trial of 3,001 families in 17 programs. Interviews with primary caregivers, child assessments, and observations of parent-child interactions were completed when children were 3 years old. Caregivers were diverse in race-ethnicity, language, and other characteristics. Regression-adjusted impact …

  • Child Care Quality Matters: How Conclusions May Vary With Context

    Open Access•John M Love, Lincoln J Harrison et al.•ARTICLE•Child Development•2003

Three studies examined associations between early child care and child outcomes among families different from those in the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) Early Child Care Research Network study. Results suggest that quality is an important influence on children's development and may be an important moderator of the amount of time in care. Thus, the generalizability of the NICHD findings may hinge on the context i…

  • Developmental changes in the time-dependent nature of memory retrieval

    Kimberly Boller, Carolyn Rovee-Collier et al.•ARTICLE•Developmental Psychology•1990•Cited by: 3

Six-month-old infants trained in an operant conditioning procedure were allowed to forget the contingency and were presented with a reminder in a memory-reactivation paradigm. The time course of memory retrieval after the reminder, the relation between the forgetting functions of the newly acquired and the reactivated memory, and the potential contribution of the context to retention after long delays were investigated
