Changes in Awareness of Impact upon Others as a Function of Encounter and Marathon Group Experiences
The research assessed the efficacy of encounter and marathon group experiences in inducing changes in perception of self and others and in personal and interpersonal dimensions of psychological functioning. Formulation and changes in attitudes toward the group were examined as well. Objective tests were administered to E and C groups consisting of graduate students in psychology. Forced-choice peer-nomination rating forms and attitude questionnai…
Reliability Study of the Defense Mechanism Inventory
Aims of this study are to replicate and elucidate reliability characteristics of the Defense Mechanism Inventory (Gleser & Ihilevich, 1969). College students (Men = 47, Women = 47) were administered the Defense Mechanism Inventory on two occasions separated by a 17-day interval. Whereas test-retest reliabilities for both the total and the women approximated the ranges reported by Gleser and Ihilevich (1969), the range of correlations for the men …

The study sought to determine whether persons differing in defensive style (R-S Scale) also differ systematically in their degree of openness to experience, ego strength (Es), and personality functioning (ACL). Using 3 groups of college students, high sensitizers, relative to their more repressed counterparts, were more open to experience, differed significantly on a large number of ACL scales and were no lower on Es than median R-S persons. Find…
A Comparison of Hypertensive and Hypotensive Schizophrenics
Seven hundred and sixty-six institutionalized patients were screened for evidence of hypertension and hypotension. In 515 schizophrenic patients, the incidence of hypertension was comparable to that expected in the normal population, 4.6 per cent; this was also true of the nonschizophrenic patients (5.2 per cent). The incidence of hypotension in the schizophrenic group, 16.7 per cent, was three times that expected in the normal population and sim…
