  • Ego integrity and fear of death

    Barbara L Goebel, Bruce E Boeck•ARTICLE•Death Studies•1987•Cited by: 3•References: 6

This study tested the hypothesis that level of resolution of Erikson's ego integrity versus despair crisis is inversely related to fear of death in older adults. Differences related to type of residence were also investigated. Fifty-one older adults ages 70 to 90 (11 males, 40 females) from a nursing home (N = 25) and an apartment complex (N = 26) completed measures of ego integrity and fear of death. Results of analyses of variance supported an …

  • Patterns of Extracurricular Participation from High School to College

    Laura E Berk, Barbara L Goebel•ARTICLE•American Journal of Education•1987•Cited by: 3

This investigation examined carry-over effects of high school size on extracurricular participation of 283 senior students at a large, multipurpose university. Results replicated previous findings in that students in smaller high schools showed greater extracurricular participation. However, extent of high school participation was a better predictor of college participation than was high school size. Students from smaller high schools were not mo…

  • Mobile Children

    Open Access•Barbara L Goebel•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1981

Relationships between mobility patterns and sex, socioeconomic status, and intelligence were investigated using a sample of 586 high school students (278 males, 308 females). Analysis shows higher rates of mobility during preschool and lower rates during adolescence are associated with higher socioeconomic status at adolescence and that, regardless of social status, highly intelligent adolescents report this mobility pattern. The trend seems more…

  • Age differences in motivation related to Maslow's need hierarchy

    Barbara L Goebel, Delores R Brown•ARTICLE•Developmental Psychology•1981•Cited by: 6•References: 3

Changes in motivation related to age differences and their relationship to Maslow's hierarchy of needs were investigated with 111 subjects, ages 9 years to 80 years (58 females, 53 males), divided into five age groups (children, adolescents, young adults, middle-aged adults, old adults). Using the Life Motivation Scale, subjects ranked statements representing Maslow's five needs on 11. life components. Analyses of variance (Age X Sex) yielded sig…

  • Impact of Sex-Role Values on Cognitive Performance

    Open Access•Barbara L Goebel, Barbara Goebel et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1977

In a sample of 240 high school students cognitive performance differences related to sex, sex-role stereotype, and dissonance between perceived and ideal levels of masculinity/femininity were investigated. Three-way analysis of variance (Scheffé follow-up tests) showed significant interactions on three cognitive variables when stereotype was combined with dissonance. Students scoring higher on cognitive variables expressed dissonance in the direc…
