Mindfulness and green purchase behaviors: Test of a serial mediation model
Worldwide, we have witnessed a surge in public awareness and concern for environmental conservation and sustainability due to efforts such as that of the United Nations and its introduction of 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs). Likewise, consumers have expressed greater concern for protecting natural resources and reducing the introduction of harmful materials to the world around them. Companies have increased the production of environmenta…
The interactive effects of role overload and resilience on family-work enrichment and associated outcomes
Using an interactionist perspective and conservation of resources (COR) theory, this study examined the interactive effects of resilience and role overload on family-work enrichment and the outcomes of surface acting, emotional exhaustion, and job satisfaction. The model was tested using a sample of 156 full time employees who completed surveys at two time periods. As expected, resilience was positively related to family-work enrichment and famil…
Staying Put: Off-the-Job Embeddedness as a Moderator of the Relationship Between On-the-job Embeddedness and Turnover Intentions
This study examined the relationship between two forms of embeddedness and turnover intentions using a sample of 1,189 employees of a government agency and an additional sample of 346 nurses at a hospital. The authors propose that while both on-the-job and off-the-job embeddedness factors are negatively related to turnover intentions, on-the-job embeddedness is more strongly related to turnover intentions. More important, off-the-job factors mode…
The Interactive Effects of Centralization on the Relationship Between Justice and Satisfaction
The current study examines the effects of centralization on the relationship between organizational justice and job satisfaction using referent cognitions theory as a theoretical foundation. The sample consists of 489 members of the National Association of Purchasing Managers. Results indicate that the relationships between procedural, distributive, and interactional justice and job satisfaction are stronger under conditions of high centralizatio…
The interactive effects of procedural justice and exchange ideology on supervisor‐rated commitment
Matched data collected from 143 employees and their immediate supervisors of a private sector organization indicated that employee perceptions of procedural justice were only related to supervisor‐rated affective commitment among employees with a strong exchange ideology. That is, individuals motivated by a fair exchange exhibited fewer affective commitment behaviors when they viewed the environment as unfair than when they perceived it to be fai…
Discriminating among organizational politics, justice, and support
The discriminant validity of perceptions of organizational politics, organizational support, and procedural and distributive justice was examined as the distinctions between these variables have been blurred in past research. Results from a sample of 418 full‐time employees provided evidence of discriminant validity for these variables. First, structural equation modelling was used to isolate the best structural representation of these four varia…
The Role of Participation in Decision-Making in the Organizational Politics-Job Satisfaction Relationship
The present study examined the impact participation in decision-making (PDM) had on the relationship between perceptions of organizational politics and expressions of job satisfaction among 1251 public sector employees. We hypothesized that perceptions of organizational politics would reduce job satisfaction and that the detrimental effect of poltics on job satisfaction would be weakest among workers who engage in consensus decision-making with t…
