  • Co-designed behavioural nudges to encourage university students to sit less (UC30): Findings from a mixed-methods pilot study

Open Access•Nicole Freene, Alice Martin et al.•ARTICLE•Health Education Journal•2025

Objective: University students are highly sedentary, increasing their risk of poor health outcomes. This study aimed to co-design and pilot a behavioural gain-framed nudge-based intervention to reduce university students’ sedentary behaviour by breaking up long periods of sitting every 30 minutes. Methods: Experienced-based co-design was used to conduct three workshops with university students and staff ( n = 11) to develop and create the interve…

  • Communicating with disabled children when inpatients: Barriers and facilitators identified by parents and professionals in a qualitative study

Open Access•Siobhan Sharkey, Claire Lloyd et al.•ARTICLE•Health Expectations•2016

BACKGROUND: Communication is a fundamental part of health care, but can be more difficult with disabled children. Disabled children are more frequently admitted to hospital than other children. AIMS: To explore experiences of ward staff and families to identify barriers and facilitators to effective communication with disabled children whilst inpatients. DESIGN: This was an exploratory qualitative study. METHODS: We consulted 25 staff working on …

  • The S‐leut anthropometric traits: Genetic analysis

    Open Access•Annlia Paganini‐Hill, Alice O Martin et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1981•Cited by: 2•References: 12

Genetic analyses were conducted on 51 anthropometric measurements and on four factors derived from them by factor analysis. These variables were obtained on 784 members of a religious isolate, the S‐leut. Correlations were computed between relatives, and heritabilities were estimated using information on extended families. Longitudinal measurements generally exhibited the highest heritabilities. The test for fit of a major gene model was signific…

  • The founder effect in a human isolate: Evolutionary implications

    Open Access•Alice O Martin, Alice Martin•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1970•Cited by: 6•References: 18

An investigation of the founder effect has been made on the H‐leut, a religious isolate. Ninety‐one founders, representing a maximum of 150 independent genomes, have been shown to account for the total gene pool of the 9,536 people in two of the three major subpopulations within the isolate, the S‐leut and the L‐leut. Each of these two leut is subdivided into four clans which in turn are subdivided into colonies. Malécot's coefficient of kinship …
