Microbial Community and Functions Depending on Tillage and Straw Returning Management
Tillage and straw returning are promising practices to improve soil quality, especially because of the unclear controlling effects on microbial communities and functions. A 5‐year field experiment in a winter wheat‐summer maize cropping system was implemented in the North China Plain to address this research gap. Management practices were deep tillage, rotary tillage, and no‐tillage, each with either wheat only or both wheat and maize straw retur…
Optimal straw management co‐benefits crop yield and soil carbon sequestration of intensive farming systems
Straw retention has been widely recommended to sequester more soil organic carbon (SOC) in agricultural soils, while carbon sequestration may not respond linearly to additional carbon input amount. The response of SOC, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and economic income to different straw management methods in intensive wheat‐maize double cropping systems still need systematical study. An 8‐year field experiment was conducted in the Huang‐Huai‐Hai…
Does Smart City Construction Reduce Haze Pollution
Smart city construction plays an important role in environmental governance and public health. Based on the panel data of 216 prefecture-level cities across China during the period 2009-2018, this study uses the multi-time difference-in-differences method to evaluate the haze reduction effect of smart city construction. The estimated results demonstrate that the construction of smart cities can reduce haze pollution in pilot cities significantly.…
