  • Reason-Based Evaluations of Wrongdoing in Religious and Moral Narratives

    Nancy J Cobb, Anthony D Ong et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal for the…•2001•References: 8

Protestant, Roman Catholic, and non-religiously affiliated college students (N = 136) read narrative accounts of a wrongdoing which could be seen as violating both a rule and a relationship, in which the offended party was either God (religious narrative) or another person (moral narrative). • Conceptual Encoding of Pictures and Sentences

Nancy J Cobb, Sandra Tanhauser et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of General Psychology•1980

Male and female undergraduates (N = 48) viewed pictures and sentences which were thematically related or unrelated under incidental learning conditions. Thematically related items differed in the degree to which they completely represented a theme. It was anticipated that the presence of a thematic context would lead to conceptual encoding for pictures as well as sentences. As predicted, the confidence in “old” judgments to thematically related d…

  • Effects of Stimulus Change and Drive Level on Extinction of the Conditioned Eyelid Response

    Open Access•Nancy J Cobb, Louis E Price et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1967

Rate of extinction of the conditioned eye blink was investigated as a function of maintained drive level in extinction and amount of stimulus change from conditions of acquisition to those of extinction. 50 Ss were given 90 acquisition trials under a partial reinforcement schedule in which the UCS was either delayed or omitted on half the trials. Half of the Ss conditioned under each procedure were given 20 extinction trials with the UCS delayed …

  • Reversal and Nonreversal Shift Learning in Children as a Function of Two Types of Pretraining

    Open Access•Nancy J Cobb, Louis E Price•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1966

Nursery school children were given one of two types of pretraining prior to learning either a reversal shift, a nonreversal shift, or a control shift. Relevant pretraining required learning verbal labels for one or both of the stimulus dimensions in the discrimination tasks. An irrelevant pretraining control required learning labels for one or two stimulus dimensions other than those present in the discriminations. Pretraining had no effect on la…
