Writers Working Under Wretched Conditions
Although Luis Cernuda’s views on Spanish literature have already been the object of study, the aim of this article is to throw new light on them or, to be precise, on the canonizing operations that Cernuda performs in, and through, some of his poems and critical studies. The article will focus on the friction identified by Cernuda between the Spanish poets whose canonicity he advocates, on the one hand, and, on the other, the society in which the…

Noucentisme 's “arbitrary” nature in the Mont-roig landscapes of Joan Miró (1918–1922)
The purpose of this article is to discuss the development of Joan Miró's aesthetics between 1915 and the early 1920s, and to offer an interpretation of a series of landscapes that he painted between 1918 and 1922, by highlighting their similarities with some of the landscapes described by Catalan writer Josep Pla in his Obra completa. Both Miró's and Pla's landscapes are situated within the context of Noucentisme and, more particularly, of Noucen…

Me estoy labrando tu sombra
In the late 1980s C. Christopher Soufas claimed that critics had studied the poetry of the so-called 'Generación del 27' without reference to its historical context or the artistic and philosophical debates that took place in Europe as well as in Spain during the first quarter of the twentieth century. Bearing in mind the point made by Soufas, the aim of this article is to suggest an interpretation of La voz a ti debida (1933) which differs from …
