Let’s CHAT About Artificial Intelligence for Students With Disabilities: A Systematic Literature Review and Meta-Analysis
Researchers have explored artificial intelligence (AI) applications across educational contexts; however, there is a lack of meta-analysis focused on students with disabilities (SWDs). This study examined the overall effect of AI-based interventions on SWDs’ learning outcomes in 29 (quasi-)experimental studies conducted globally. We used cultural historical activity theory (CHAT) to explore how the effect was moderated by factors, including parti…
Eastern Arabia and the Persian Gulf in the Hellenistic and Late Antique Period
This review covers over half a millennium, ca. 300 bc to ad 250. Significant changes in settlement patterns, material culture, faith, and integration are seen across the region. All areas of eastern Arabia were engaged with the Hellenistic world through trade and cultural exchange, but this is most strongly shown in the islands of the northern and central Gulf (Failaka and Bahrain), which were politically incorporated into larger Hellenistic poli…
A critical analysis of universal design for learning in the U.S. federal education law
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) has been frequently discussed as a framework that guides the design of inclusive learning environments for all students with and without disabilities. This policy brief reports on findings of a content analysis of how UDL was referenced in three major U.S. federal education laws. Results indicate that UDL was not explicitly defined although it was closely tied to alternative assessment and technology in K-12 ed…
Are Pre-Service Educators Prepared to Implement Personalized Learning: An Alignment Analysis of Educator Preparation Standards
Traction is growing for personalized learning (PL) as an educational innovation that aims to provide learning experiences to meet diverse learning needs. However, little research has investigated how PL is positioned in professional standards that provide guidance on teacher education across content-specific disciplines and for diverse learner populations. Using an alignment methodology, this study identified and analyzed 193 out of 654 educator …
Educator preparation: A multi-discipline analysis of standards to promote critical thinking
Teacher education standards are designed to guide the preparation of pre-service teachers to acquire knowledge and develop skills required for delivering high-quality educational experiences to all learners. Analysing how critical thinking (CT) is positioned in educator preparation standards is an initial step towards understanding the conceptualisation and operationalisation of CT in teacher education. In this study, a team of researchers analys…
Conversational Agents to Support Remote Personalized Instruction for Diverse Learners
Integrating instructional designs of personalized learning through the lens of universal design for learning
Academia's responses to crisis: A bibliometric analysis of literature on online learning in higher education during Covid‐19
This paper aimed to provide a holistic view of research that investigated online learning in higher education around the globe during COVID‐19 utilizing a bibliometric analysis. The researchers used co‐citation analysis and text mining afforded by VOSviewer to document and analyze research patterns and topics reported in peer‐reviewed documents published between January 2020 and August 2021. Findings of this study indicated that scholars from 103…

Emanant themes of blended learning in K-12 educational environments: Lessons from the Every Student Succeeds Act
A path forward: Professional development as a means to support personalised learning
The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA, 2015) highlighted technology-based personalised learning (PL) as a means of providing equitable learning experiences for all students. Many states have put forward guidance in their ESSA plans to inform professional development (PD) that empowers educators with skills that maximize PL for students. This brief analysed data from state ESSA plans to better understand how states provided guidance to prepare educ…
Exploring Factors associated with the implementation of student-centered instructional practices in U.S. classrooms
Personalized learning and Essa: What we know and where we go
The passage of the 2015, Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), affords states funding for many new options to address the needs of learners. One of the prominent options is personalized learning (PL). This study sought to determine how states positioned PL in their state plans. This study used a qualitative research design to analyze state ESSA plans for presence of and relation to PL. From this analysis, four themes emerged, (a) definitions of PL, …
Christianity in the Gulf during the first centuries of Islam
This article re‐examines the ceramics of SBY‐9, a church and monastery site on the island of Sir Bani Yas, Abu Dhabi emirate, U.A.E. It then explores other archaeological evidence for Christianity in the Arabian Gulf and compares it to the textual data, resulting in a reconsideration of the history and activities of the Church of the East.
