Graduate Social Work Education
In this article we review the current state of empirical research on graduate social work education, focusing on the major curriculum content areas of research, practice skills, human behavior and social environment, policy, values, and field instruction. We address what has been accomplished to date and which areas are especially in need of quality research investigations
Mandatory Continuing Education
Mandatory continuing education for social work and other professions is, in part, a response to concern about professional competence. The authors analyze the inadequacy of this approach in assuring continuing competence and suggest alternatives. Although programs under development are in their infancy, they show a trend away from paper-and-pencil tests toward real-life practice simulations
Ethics and Manipulation in Organizations
This article discusses manipulation, identifies obstacles to the achievement of the objectives of a social service organization, and analyzes ethical issues inherent in the use of manipulation as a goal-achievement strategy
