  • Beyond Sectarianism

    Open Access•Anna Filipi•ARTICLE•Ethnopolitics•2026

Sectarianism remains a popular framework through which the Syrian civil war is interpreted. Within it, ethno-religious minorities are viewed as unitary actors whose political conduct follows from sectarian belonging. This article tests that assumption against the Druze community, reexamining their political behaviour between 2011 and 2024 across four Syrian regions. Drawing on interviews and media analysis, it shows that Druze responses to the co…

  • Conversation Analysis and Child Language Acquisition

    Open Access•Anna Filipi•CHAPTER•Encyclopedia of Applied Linguistics•2020

Child‐focused research in conversation analysis (child‐CA) has been steadily coming into its own as it continues to amass a considerable body of work on the ways that children learn to talk as they become competent members of a culture. While there is an increasingly diverse set of contexts, themes, and disciplines that are drawn on in this work, it is nonetheless commonly driven by a microanalytic, naturally occurring, and in situ concern with s…
