East Asia 1976-77
The East and Southeast section of Family Planning in the Developing World is reviewed with focus on recent changes or the need for changes in terms of policy program funding research and evaluation and program accomplishments. East Asia 1974
1. The gain of 700,000 new acceptors in 1973 over 1972 was slowed down to a bare 300,000 last year. New acceptors for 1974 totaled around 3.7 million, of which Indonesia provided more than 40 percent. But all countries except the Philippines made some gains. To Sum Up
A summary of family planning data and activities in East Asian countries in 1972 is presented. Indonesia, the Philippines, and Thailand led the countries in the number of new acceptors. Only Vietnam is without an official government population policy. Religious opposition to family planning is less than had been thought. The major problem in East Asia is that most couples view the ideal number of children in a family as 4, 2 of whom should be son…

Korea/Taiwan 1969
An annual review of the achievements in family planning in South Korea and Taiwan is presented. In Korea 1969 closed with more contraceptive acceptors than in 1968 (623000 vs. 472000) but numbers of acceptors were still below program targets. As in the past the major handicap was a shortage of money to meet local costs rather than a lack of interested women. The population growth rate is difficult to measure accurately largely because of underreg…
Korea and Taiwan
A review of the achievements in family planning in Korea and Taiwan in 1968 is presented. Korea launched a Mothers Club system reaching into every third village and a national pill program but it fell short of targets and suffered administrative difficulties especially with the budget. Over a 6 month period the number of new pill acceptors was 76078. This falls short of the target of 30000 new acceptors per month but still compares well with pill…
