  • Neighborhood Influences on Travel Behavior and Availability Constraints

    Open Access•J L Naroff, Joel Naroff et al.•ARTICLE•Environment and Planning A…•1984•References: 18

Traditionally, transportation demand studies have, for the most part, viewed modal choice in terms of an aggregate system-wide function. However, it seems reasonable to expect that the travel decision may be influenced by a composite of factors that include not only availability conditions, but determinants relating to neighborhood characteristics and peer-group pressures. In this paper, supply-side constraints on availability were used to segmen…

  • Factors Influencing the Actions of Recent Movers Into and Within Metropolitan Areas

    Joel L Naroff, Joel Naroff et al.•ARTICLE•Urban Geography•1982•Cited by: 2•References: 1

Recent trends in migration into and within urban areas in United States are examined using Annual Housing Survey data on family characteristics of recent movers. The results suggest that the back-to-the-city movement (gentrification) can be supported nationally with present data. Although others have not been able to determine extensiveness of back-to-the-city movement data from Annual Housing Survey of Recent Movers seems to suggest that this is…

  • The Impact of Decentralization on the Journey-to-Work and Pollution

Joel L Naroff, Joel Naroff et al.•ARTICLE•Economic Geography•1980

The aim of this paper is to examine the relationship between urban spatial development, the journey to work, and central city air quality. Using a twostep model, we examine the effects of population/employment dispersion on auto work trip generation and the impact of trip making density on central city pollution. The results suggest that: (1) both population and job dispersal play a significant role in determining the spatial variation in trip ma…
